The Friday Five

1. Where are you right now?
Dining room of my parents' house, which is my temporary office until I move out. Also, Manassas, VA.

2. What time is it?
12:02

3. What are you wearing?
Old Navy boxers, black Levis, Celtic knot-stamped leather belt, Seiko watch (HS graduation present)--I got called to the phone right after my shower.

4. Any people or animals around you? Describe them.
My nephew Brendan: 11 months old, brown hair, blue eyes, wearing blue jeans and a red/white/blue striped Henley, standing in his crib and bouncing up and down.
My macaw, Lucy: Blue wings and tail, yellow underwing, chest, neck, white face with black striping, black ring under chin, black beak, grey eyes. Probably 30" beak to tail.

5. What are your plans for the weekend?
Starting with today:
2pm: Dad comes home; help him move stuff out of family room for weekend hardwood floor installation.
Sometime before 5, maybe: Visit Christina, drive her to work.
Sometime before 7: Parents leave for airport to fly to Florida, see my uncle, as explained yesterday.
Sometime after 8: Go meet Brian A, see TT.
Saturday:
3-close: Petsmart
Sunday:
Morning, maybe: Hang out w/Christina before she works at 11.
3: Go to Nathan's to hang out, exchange Xmas stuff, watch movies, etc.
8:30 Parents' flight gets in.

LJ is looking for one.

Also, I was amused by a recent support request, cited:
This is false advertising. Your service is not free. It is only free to people who are within a small population of "friends" of Livejournal users.

Yup, a small population of 835,000, 692K of them active in the past, 307K active recently.

The lack of knowledge and attention to detail among some support volunteers is astounding. When a support priv notices someone replying to answers, they send a welcome email, which indicates they should skim the Support Guide, and join such communities as [livejournal.com profile] lj_support and [livejournal.com profile] helpscreening, as well as optionally ones such as [livejournal.com profile] lj_maintenance and [livejournal.com profile] news, to keep abreast of changes.

And yet, I see screened answers that tell people significantly out-of-date information (such as "you can't rename journals"), answers with signatures, smileys, "hope this helps", intentionally poor grammar and spelling, no referenced FAQ, flip responses, unsure responses, etc.

In fact, right over the box where you can submit a response, it says "before answering, read the support guide... do NOTanswer if unsure or guessing."

Originally, I was planning to see The Two Towers with Brian and possibly Carson tonight. Not seeing Brian online for a while after he got off work, I called his house, got his cell #, called back to get his correct cell #, and called.. seems he and Carson set plans for -tomorrow- night and communication broke on its way to me. I'm working tomorrow night, unfortunately, so we'll probably see Catch Me If You Can later in the week.

However, this left me with a strong hankering to still see the damn movie tonight, and find someone to see it with. Casting about at 2115 with upcoming 2215 and 2345 showings in Centreville (but nothing later than 2120 here in Manassas), I found Nick Seeley away and idle, Misty present but not really, and Sarah present but a) not able to make it in time and b) not up for a late movie.

If Christina didn't have work at 7am tomorrow, I'd pick her up after work (~22:30) for the late showing. Wonder if Nathan would be up for the late showing? We're currently on for hanging out Sunday afternoon..

Update, 2214: Yes, Nathan's up for the late showing! He's seen it already--right after Christmas, with his parents, showing up at showtime and thus being forced to 3rd row--and is quite willing to see it again. So I'll leave in a few to meet him there, hang out for a while, and see the show. Woo!
