Tonight's movie was another I'm pretty sure Erin likes, since I'm almost certain I've received sets of quotes by mail including ones from St. Elmo's Fire. It also happens to be one of Katia's favorites. :)

Kirby: I always thought we'd be friends forever.
Kevin: Yeah, well, forever got a lot shorter all of a sudden.

Kevin: Love is an illusion.
Kirby: It's the only illusion that counts, my friend.

(And then, the previews at the end were for Silverado and Real Genius. Never seen the former, but the latter kicks serious booty. :)

When I try to get to the Microsoft Windows Update page here, which normally runs that applet to scan your computer and figure out what updates you need, I get a whole lot of clicks and then this:

Windows Update page not found error

I'm not running WebWasher, and I even tried re-enabling Active Scripting in the Security settings, but I get nothing further. Ideas?

Update: At [livejournal.com profile] nitroxide's suggestion, I manually cleared my disk cache and it worked like a charm. :)

He started an [livejournal.com profile] acapella_lovers community! :) I can't believe it didn't exist already (and it didn't, I just checked.. no matching-interest communities under any mis/spelling of a cappella.)

This past Friday through today was the Ithaca Apple Harvest festival, which covers the Commons in artisans/crafters, performers, and vendors of all kinds, including (of course) apples, apple cider, apple crisp, caramel apples, etc., etc. for three days. :) Katia and I went down around noon, and spent the afternoon there.. ran into a few people we knew, bought some tasty items, entered a raffle for a huge quilt that'll be my mom's xmas present if I win it.. and at the end, there was a presentation of a long, very-signed banner to some FDNY members who were present, and a group sing of God Bless America. All in all, had a good day. =) (Weather's turned fall-like, too, chilly and breezy, all of a sudden.)

And now.. an evening of more movies! :)

Yet another verbal slip by Bush

Apparently "failure" really isn't part of President Bush's vocabulary. *grin*

So, I'm the list owner for four related (and now un-needed) e-mail lists for last year's robotics teams, so I want to shut them down.

I go to the Cornell Information Technologies page, click the link for "E-mail and Mailing Lists"
From there, "manage mailing lists"
From there, "Shutdown Your List (permanently)"
From there, "List Owner Change Center"
From there, "shutting down your list"
From there, "it is best to use the shutdown feature of the renewal site"

...only to be told, "The renewal period for spring 2001 is over. Please contact listmgr@cornell.edu for further assistance."

Ah.. what?

Seems someone can't translate bin Laden's statement to English very well.. I didn't think Babelfish did that language. *grin*

Anyone seen Wag the Dog?

So who wants to know what's really going on, the whole picture?

(Paraphrased from my comment in a friend's post, w.r.t. not watching the news:
Heh.. What's to see? We're bombing Afghanistan but the media's not telling us the whole story; the Taliban and possibly ObL are bitching about it and not telling the whole story. What's to see?)

This evening's first movie was Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. Ironic, eh? (As if the movie hadn't enough internal irony.)

And I learned interesting things, like:
- Peter Sellers played Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake, President Merkin Muffley, and Dr. Strangelove
- James Earl Jones was indeed the bombardier
- Some of the names are in fact horrible, terrible puns. Slim Pickens and Jack D. Ripper, f'r instance.
- And lots more interesting trivia, actually.

And, this quote was quite amusing:

President Merkin Muffley: You can't fight in here, this is the War Room!
