Jun. 21st, 2003 11:21 pmChristiangurl316: French kissing
"I just want more opinions on whether french kissing is ok or not God's eyes. Do you think that it's going "too far?" How about making out, is that too far?"
First response:
valleygirl4God: "I personally don't think that kissing should be done b4 marriage, but Song of Songs (a.k.a Song of Solomon) 7:9 should help answer your question." (Not.. before.. marriage. O_o)
Other quality responses from page 1 (I didn't continue reading):
"Some people that I know state that only sex and other physical things are going "too far". French kissing is also going too far, but, it's only my opinion. For one thing leads to another, and before you know it, you will have gone too far. Just because you set your limits and boundaries doesn't mean that you will always stay within them." (Self control much?)
"Oh, that's a question I have that I wish I was comfortable enough to ask my mother." (Ah, such open communication..)
"ok well for me and boyfrind it was too much...we try not to any more cuz it takes the focus off God and on to us..." (No living your own life, that's the ticket.)
"When it comes to physical contact with your boyfriend/girlfriend, think of a traffic light. The Green is from the chin up. Yellow from the shoulders to the chin. Red form the shoulders down." (That's right! No holding hands! No hugging! Or maybe they mean kissing--no kissing hands!)
"First of all, there is more to virginity than refraining from actual intercourse. This is really only the outside aspect of chastity. " (Check the dictionary, honey.)
"ok ive been kissed and its not all its cracked up 2 b ok and im not proud of it" (You haven't been kissed by the right person, then.)
"I really don't think it's right. I personally don't think it should be done with anyone other then your husband. ... Am I willing to tell my husbands future spouse what we did? Because technically you'd be makeing out with someone else's husband." (Wait, wait. a) Yes, because it's normal and natural to kiss before marriage, so a spouse shouldn't care. b) your "husband's future spouse"? what? c) No, that's the great thing about temporality--before marriage, he's not someone's husband.)
"also, french kissing is kind of like x-changing syliva. GROSS" (says the girl who's now pregnant. The maturity, I don't see it.)
"The bible says to treat guys as brothers so my youth pastor answered the question this way. Since they are you brothers in Christ would you french kiss your brother and if you wouldn't than you don't need to do it. " (dual meanings of "brother", folks.)
*shakes head*

Date: 2003-06-24 08:41 pm (UTC)hey, somebody pass the ChristChex!
Date: 2003-06-21 08:36 pm (UTC)also: Crouton o' Christ! Jes-its! <333
seriously, though: i know many many people firmly believe that god/christ come first in a relationship, and that by fully accepting that, god does somethingorother with your physical relationship to make it more enlightened or whatever. i personally do not understand this take.
in response to The Stupid Oh God It Hurts:
no kissin' your Brother In Christ, eh? so MARRIAGE IS INCEST. i'm sure jesus likes THAT!
with these people, are you SURPRISED that kissing is not all it is crakd up 2 b? when they ASK WHAT FRENCH KISSING IS as they have only kissed their parents on the cheek and this is the sum of their experience? i mean, i'm sure the likelihood of that vast kissing knowledge turning into some carnal sinful fun thing is VERY VERY HIGH. and if they keep to the whole STOPLIGHT analogy.. .:rolls eyes

I quite literally could not type a response to this for about a minute, I was laughing so hard.
If I ever manage to find the Jeez Whiz ad again (no more boring bland communion wafers!) I'll be sure and send it to you.

Date: 2003-06-21 09:00 pm (UTC)I mean, really. Is it any coincidence that the bible belt carries the highest rate of divorce? I mean, if you haven't grown up enough to understand a mature relationship (and that includes at least SOME physical experimentation), you're not going to have a successful marriage. Otherwise people *will* get married just to have sex, and that's really sad.
I loosely consider myself a Christian, I'd say somewhere between liberal Quaker and Unitarian, and this is just the sort of issue that made me reject the mainstream church. I see no one attempting to consider the ramifications of such actions or the questions someone should truly consider as to whether or not they should kiss someone, and that seems more important than what people consider to be their interpretation of someone else's translation of an interpretation of something considered to be God's word.
Really, I want to tell these people to grow up.

Re: Just because you don't agree...
Date: 2003-06-22 12:26 pm (UTC)You bet your ASS I'll make fun of that. It takes away its power. This shit has no place in a civilized, educated society, cultural relativity be damned.

Date: 2003-10-13 05:54 pm (UTC)Yep. I wonder if the same person who doesn't think we should disparage the beliefs of those we disagree with is ok with female genital mutilation.
And really, that's just this taken to a logical extreme.

Date: 2003-06-23 05:57 pm (UTC)I did a little misreading - I read "song" as "snog" thoughtout the "Snog of Solomon" one. :) OK, so it's a British word, but I assume you appreciate the humour.

Date: 2003-06-24 09:28 am (UTC)I said: I will climb the palm tree,
I will take hold of its branches.
Now let your breasts be like clusters of the vine
and the fragrance of your breath like apples,
O_o
i wonder if that's actually what she wanted to post, or if maybe she Just Didn't Get It or something. song of songs is basically softcore erotica. isn't the bible fun?
