Can't complain about finding email from MIT's Lincoln Lab in your inbox in the morning. :)

You want the weather? How about the Whizzle Fo' Shizzle?

From Support, a request featuring a man trying to beat the system, asking Support to help him do so, and getting fair treatment in the end. Oops. :D

*snrk* From [livejournal.com profile] xviragox:
"I love translating governmentese, though. "OPM has issued guidance clarifying that for pay and leave purposes June 11, 2004, will be treated as falling within the scope of statutes and executive orders governing holidays for Federal employees." I had to re-read that a couple times just to make sure I wasn't reading what I wanted to read. Heh."

And finally, Intelligent Design authors flailing about, at great length:
Cover story: WORLD ASKED FOUR leaders of the Intelligent Design Movement to have some fun: Imagine writing in 2025, on the 100th anniversary of the famous Scopes "monkey" trial, and explain how Darwinism has bit the dust, unable to rebut the evidence that what we see around us could not have arisen merely by time plus chance.

Replied to the email from the guy at MIT Lincoln Lab, and got a call from him a couple hours later. We chatted a bit, commiserated on the job market of late 2002 when I last applied there, and after hanging up, I emailed him my résumé directly as requested. I then submitted my résumé through their website and applied directly for a Control Systems Engineer position, as suggested. (He pointed out, though, that they don't update that website very often, so a January listing could well be filled by now.)

In the meantime, I've been reading Neverwhere, listening to RantRadio's Industrial stream, and only eating some Ritz Garlic Butter crackers. I suppose I should have lunch, eh?

Also, Nathan's home from his second business trip in as many weeks; this evening, we'll be attending an AITP-sponsored presentation on 3G and 4G wireless technology; later tonight, I plan to go to Alchemy. :)

Grrrar D-Link router. While I was out, there was a brief power outage, and once again--first time with this particular device, though it happened several times with the previous one--it won't hold any of its connections, wired or wireless. I'm back on the old Belkin router (wired only) because it works consistently, and the D-Link will come around at some point. Power cycling didn't help, resetting didn't help, and thus I've submitted a request via IE to D-Link tech support because neither of my Safari-based requests were ever answered, and I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Anyhow, this power outage occurred while Nathan and I were out at the AITP networking/dinner/presentation at the Ft. Myer Officers' Club. The networking was very limited, as the entire event was rather underattended, and I think Nathan and I were the youngest people there by a good 10-20 years. I acquired no information and gave out no résumés. Dinner was good, and we left before the presentation--Nathan had been up since 3am after 4 hours of sleep, due to returning from a business trip to NH. (Just as well, as his mom forgot to bring the projector, so the presentation couldn't go as planned anyhow.) All in all, not the most exciting, informative, or productive evening. However, I did make a dollar out of the deal, as Nathan and I bet whether anyone (other than his mother) would say "Oh, you poor thing" when I explained that I lived with him. No one did, so I made a dollar, and everyone was amused when we explained after very visibly exchanging money. :D

Thus, now that I'm home and back on the stable router, I'll head out to Alchemy. :)

Update, 2216: Apparently, Safari doesn't send tech support requests to D-Link properly, because they already replied to the request I sent via IE. Woo! Lovin' the long-hours tech support. Now, just have to try what they suggested... (later)
