Went over to the Civic Pub to help celebrate Bella's birthday, which featured a long table full of her friends, a few of whom I knew, and several of whom were cute. :) After a bit there, we all headed for Academy, despite its $5 Thursday cover, but upon arriving there--after a walk aaall the way around a parking lot due to a construction detour--we found a long line to get in, as it was some sort of ANU O Week event, and decided on icbm/Insomnia instead. the music downstairs sucked as usual, and the music upstairs sucked (unlike usual), but we hung out for a while anyway, losing about half of the original group. Eventually it was down to me, Jillian, Mitchell, Ross, and a few other girls and guys, in an increasingly packed icbm and an increasingly empty Insomnia--which closed before 2am, at which time I was one of five people up there. The highlight of the evening was Mitchell getting hit upon like nobody's business by an attractive but very drunk girl, whom we managed to escape in fairly short order.

Afterwards, the four of us mentioned headed back towards my hotel, bypassing it in favor of Mitchell's place--a small room in a communal household--dorm-style, but intended for low-income not-necessarily-student folks. Hung out there for a bit--originally planning to have some food, which never happened--and were entertained by a French phrase book (particularly the romance/pickup/rejection/sex/etc. section) and a British musical group called Lamb, and eventually went our ways sometime after 4.

Shortly I sleep, at noon I go back to work. :)

Well, um, this is rather a surprise.

Due to my roommate's unfamiliarity with my ferrets, I learned today that it was not, in fact, Sylvie who died back around the new year, but Bruno. Sylvie is still alive and kicking, albeit rather sick, and under veterinary scrutiny.

NathanC79 (10:03:41): OK. Well here is the news.
NathanC79 (10:05:09): 1. The ferret is actually Sylvie, and not Bruno

2. Sylvie has Pancreatic Cancer

3. Sylvie has Hepatitis, I have medicine

4. I have some sort of super food to bulk her up

5. There is a check up scheduled for Monday

So, I'm not upset by this, as I was already upset by "ferret died" two months ago, and now I have "Bruno died!" coupled with "Sylvie didn't!" which sort of cancel out. Weird.

So I learned today that both Dave and I are headed back to the States on this coming Wednesday, February 25th--scheduled to leave Canberra at noon, get to Sydney about an hour later, leave Sydney an hour later, arrive in San Francisco about 7 hours before my departure from Sydney, and then--well, see, the most direct departure would be two hours later. But see, I have some really cool friends in the Bay area that I've never met in person--[livejournal.com profile] preciouslaura and [livejournal.com profile] ezme9, specifically. And since it won't cost the company any more for me to stay a day longer, I came up with a plan via email: I'll be hanging out with Laura for the day! (But not Ellen, alas--her schedule for the day day is full to the gills! And much as I'd like to, I don't think the company would appreciate me taking an extra day off until Friday, when Ellen's available.)

Laura's response:
LTennisB (17:09:59): I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT YOUR EMAIL!!!!!!!!!
LTennisB (17:11:35): no, you DON'T UNDERSTAND!! that is SO NEAT!

How's that for a warm pre-reception? :D

Worked a shorter day today--noon to 7--and now I'm off to Latebra and thence to Tilley's; I'll later meet Liz at Insomnia. :)

But first, a link!
From [livejournal.com profile] gaymarriage via [livejournal.com profile] theninjakitten and later [livejournal.com profile] blistex: Today a coworker of mine had a thought to send flowers to a random couple waiting in line at SF city hall.. Read it! It's a lovely idea. :)
