Well, um, this is rather a surprise.

Due to my roommate's unfamiliarity with my ferrets, I learned today that it was not, in fact, Sylvie who died back around the new year, but Bruno. Sylvie is still alive and kicking, albeit rather sick, and under veterinary scrutiny.

NathanC79 (10:03:41): OK. Well here is the news.
NathanC79 (10:05:09): 1. The ferret is actually Sylvie, and not Bruno

2. Sylvie has Pancreatic Cancer

3. Sylvie has Hepatitis, I have medicine

4. I have some sort of super food to bulk her up

5. There is a check up scheduled for Monday

So, I'm not upset by this, as I was already upset by "ferret died" two months ago, and now I have "Bruno died!" coupled with "Sylvie didn't!" which sort of cancel out. Weird.

Indeed, that's part of why it's so surprising. So unless -I- was mistaken about sex vs. name of ferrets, Sylvie/female is still alive and Bruno/male is not.

well, wasn't it female who was blind/diabetic? the pancreatic cancer makes sense with that, i guess. but wouldn't nathan know if it was, say, the BIGGER one who died?

Yeah, that was her, and yes it would. I think the size difference wasn't as pronounced by the time I left, but don't remember exactly--he was still at least somewhat bigger (and more rambunctious with noticeably different markings, particularly on the chest.)

i'm sorry your babies are sick/dead, but being as i am a non-lover of animals, i can totally see the funny side of this mix-up and your post made me giggle.

ACK!

It was Bruno that got all skinny on us last year though, and that we had to hand feed for a while. Poor guy :( I'm sorry!

the ferret that is me is not dead yay!
although the whole cancer and hepatitis thing kinda sucks. do ferrets just not live all that long?

Yeah, I thought you'd like that. :D

Well, ferrets seem to be prone to several rare diseases, probably as a result of a lot of inbreeding--insulinoma, adrenal disease, a few others. Average life span ranges from 5-10 years, but medical care can get more expensive towards the later years.
