We were going to go see Sim Redmond's (of the Sim Redmond Band) CD release party at the Rongo tonight, but I was too tired.. cleaned up my room again (bed, floor, ferrets' cage) and took a nap for a few hours. Still tired, might watch a movie before sleep. :)

Still like this song. :)

This weekend: Greek Peak Swap Shop, and a Cornell Wind Symphony concert (music from Holst's The Planets and Star Wars selections).

Wow..

One week from today is Charles and Anita's 50th wedding anniversary. Perhaps three of you are fortunate enough to know these people.. they live two doors down the street from my home in VA, my family has known them for as long as we've lived in our current house (almost 15 years, I think), and they're Shauna's and my honorary grandparents. They're retired, and their door is always open for a chat, some TV, some watermelon on the back porch, raspberry-picking in their garden, maybe the history of some of their antiques, collectibles, or ancient tools in the garage.. they just rock.
I need to call them. And send a card. =)

Dammit, you beat me to it. :)

They've been blasting at the Duffield Hall site for the past week, and continuing for another week or two.. something like a couple thousand cubic feet of rock to remove, so they've gone to explosives instead of machines. They usually have one blast in the morning and one in the afternoon.

So you hear three whistles, and you know a blast is coming. If you look outside, you see the workers collecting, leaving the site, and/or blocking traffic on the adjacent streets and paths. It also gives you a few minutes to get to a window overlooking the site. This afternoon, I was working on a lab report in the ACCEL lab with Laurel and Veronica (my homework partners for everything, with a part-time Margo) and heard the three-whistle--we dropped our work and went upstairs, looking for a window. We went to the Co-op&whatever office--and without even asking, they told us, "the best window is down the hall in Cindy's office"--so we went to Cindy's office, who was amused but used to it, heard the double whistle (one-minute warning), and...

BOOM!

It flipped the huge rubber blasting mat (weights over a ton, if I recall correctly--have to check that) they use to shield it. Damn.

Then the single all-clear whistle blast, and we went on our way, getting some candy from Cindy's bowl on the way out. This included some Nerds (yay blobs of sugar!), which is what reminded me of this whole story--because it's her AIM icon.

Hehehe..

Went to Greek Peak for their annual Swap Shop (last weekend and this one).. several thousand people's worth of skis (downhill, x-country), ski-boards, poles, snowboards, inline skates, ice skates, ski boots, snowboard boots, bindings, etc., etc., some new, some used, for sale at much reduced prices.. went with David Rosenthal and Katia. David bought skis/boots/poles; Katia and I checked out prices. I'm trying to decide between new equipment from Built at 50% off, or good used equipment at comparable or better prices.

Also picked up David's and my season pass IDs! Woohoo!

Tonight's first movie... Army of Darkness. Damn, but that's a silly movie. =)

Went to Barnes to go to the Wind Symphony concert (selections from Holst's The Planets and Star Wars), but it was sold out.. so we went to Stella's instead, had some coffee, and eventually came back home. Now, one more movie and it's back to the store we go to return them (only one-time overdue :)

Also, there's DG's sorority formal in our living room/dining room/game room, which we're contractually obligated to stay away from. Very odd.
