4. The rest of the trip here was uneventful--got to Springfield Metro, decided to continue on to Union Station rather than changing plans to catching the Greyhound at Springfiekld--would've left earlier and arrived later--and got a ticket about 15min before the 9pm bus. Arrived NYC at 0130, walked to Penn (about 15min), thus missing the 0146 train to Babylon, found Melody in the LIRR waiting area, and took the 0240 train to Babylon, arriving around 0350 and walking the couple miles back to her house. Had some tasty 'Smorz' cereal, chatted with Crystal (who woke up around 5) and then I slept from about 6-12:30.

   so. mom calls today and is like "something happened that is like fifteen years ago!"

   m: no, that was when you were two. you would have been about four..
   s: you found another cat?!
   
   there was a kitten malnourished and scared in our neighbors' back yard, and mom was like "i saw the face and i could not leave it!" so basically jen and i got to my house ~1315 i think [for the kitten's 1650 appointment at the vet.. ] and I LIKE HER. she is cuddly and sweet and 1lb11oz at about 9weeks, so she is too skinny, but she's a shorthair calico ["diluted calico" i think they call it; not distinct patches but blendy.] with a mostly white face. she has a very squeaky meow. she slept on my collarbones for a couple hours. she approves of me. :DDDD she was like YOU ARE MY MOM, SQUEAK, I LIKE YOU!
   
   her only health issues are obviously her malnourishment, but she has an upper-respiratory infection that causes drainage in one of her eyes [got antibiotic, and she'll get vaccine when she is healthier/heavier], had minor case of fleas [gave her a capstar, which kills all fleas w/i 30min so you can remove them.] and they gave her routine de-worming goo.
   
   weird coincidence/s: we found Ashes much the same way. she was a malnourished kittem, older than this one but still small. in all the years we had Ashes, no other strays showed up. not two weeks after she's gone, another kitten appears. also, i found out that Ashes showed up in august too, and this one was august. my grandmother is like "ashes sent this one to you" cos she can be weird and holistic, but it is kinda uncanny.
   
   her name is Puck. it's cross-cast enough that i figure i can use the name if i damn well please. steph was all "that is a boy's name! also you did not consult, you are thoughtless and selfish! i will have to see the cat more than you anyway" except jen and mom and i had been trying to name her all afternoon. meh. steph's allergic to her anyway. and i refuse to name a cat "mischief." she likes burrowing in my hair and under my chin, climbing up my shoulders, and being so so so cuddly. and she eats kitten food and is so cute, goo-eye and all. i feel bad having been all MY KITTEN all day when i won't be there tomorrow. but it's funny cos when we had Ashes, i always called her "cat" anyway, which i'm sure will eventually happen with Puck, but right now i keep calling her "baby kitty." and dad calls her "littlebit" when talking to her. she is so piteous when we put her in the kittycondo thing in the basement, which has a basket with a cuddly towel she became friends with at the vet's, and litter box and food. i'm not sure she can get back UP from the litter box to the basket yet, so it should be lowered. but she will be okay, and mom was like "i know. if you could have her in the dorms, i'd let you take her." but it is forbidden. :[
   
   so i had a baby kitty all curled up on me a lot today and it's so nice when animals are just like "okay, THIS person is Teh Good" and that person is me. <3 Puck.
   and there's nothing quite like a creature that gets so much comfort from sleeping against your heartbeat.
   
   Mom called my cell around 12:30 to tell me about this, as I hadn't read the post yet. :D

     also, vindication! mom called to say puck likes her new fleecey kitty bed, and said dad'd had her this morning and she'd climbed all over him and the keyboard so 'puck' is in fact appropriate. ["Up and down, up and down

     our previous cat, Cat ["Ashes"], ended up being stunted and small forever because she'd almost died of malnourishment when she was so young. normal-sized cats seem so large to me. at her most obese she was 13lb, and when she died she was 4lb. she should probably have been about 8lb normally. Puck, on the other hand, is under 2lb and is made of ribs and spine. and [!!] today she could jump up onto a chair, which yesterday she did not have the energy to do. it was reassuring when she'd start washing herself, cos it meant she had enough energy/care to bother.. also it meant she wasn't scared around us. :]]]

I should probably give Megatokyo a more thorough read-through at some point--I used to dislike Penny Arcade, too. But I doubt I'll find time for it. ;P

i didn't like megatokyo til i read through the entire archives. yesterday. the few matt'd shown me were pretty, but only make sense in context. go figure, when it's manga-style comic. it's a developing graphic novel that happens to be fairly humorous. so matt'd be like THIS ONE, IT IS FUNNY, but i was like.. uh. but now they're funny.

HI! I found you in a roundabout way through my friend ezme9. What is a capstar?? And where can I get some. I have 2 cats with a massive flea problem that we are trying desperately to get a hold of.
