At about 5:25, I called Yellow Cab (or Red Top, not actually sure, but anyway) and was told "30-35 minutes" as ETA.
Just now, 50-55min later, I called back and was told that the driver had made a pickup already. Well, it wasn't me, nor anyone at my phone number or with my name. Grrr. (He said he'd call dispatch to make sure a cab was sent now.)

It's fortunate that the LIRR runs all night. :P However, I'm still 15min from Metro, 45min from there to Union Station, a 5-10min walk to the Greyhound terminal, and a 4-5 hour bus ride from Port Authority whenever I actually leave the terminal. (And then, a 10-minute walk to Penn Station, where I'll meet Melody--sometime after midnight or 1, at this rate. :P

Update, 7pm: No, seriously, I'm never using this damn company again. At about 6:55 I called again--90minutes after I first called--and was given an ETA of 10 minutes. WTF?

Ah well. At least it eventually arrived, and I had nothing riding on exact arrival time anywhere..

Caitlin and I have been through the very same bullshit. Outside of the downtown areas it seems most cab companies are a joke.

Maybe I should call Diamond next time--there are two that live/park half a mile from me. :P

Perhaps then they'll at least know where they're supposed to be when they fail to show up.

Always possible.

I liked that my cabbie didn't seem to know the area roads very well, either.

I've actually had them ask me for directions, and I was very disappointed in that. Not long after that out went the notion that being a "professional" should mean anything beyond the fact that you get paid to do something.

He did ask me about a few roads, but I didn't know that particular area, as I would've gone another way.

They have that little dispatcher comm box, can't they get directions through that?

I sure hope so!

Next time they ask directions you should offer to drive while you're at it.

Heh. "As long as I'm paying you to let me give you directions, can I pay you to let me drive too?"

Would've been a non-issue if my truck had been fixed then--I just didn't want to leave my motorcycle in a parking garage for three days, and tote my riding gear with me for a bus/train trip.

Perhaps a non-issue in the future then.
