The fact that "Analysis" was misspelled in every occurrence on page and code didn't bode well for this thing, which I saw in [livejournal.com profile] blaisepascal's and [livejournal.com profile] cawfetalk's journals.

Your Livejournal Analysis

Your Livejournal's Age

According to the information you provided, your Livejournal was created on 2000-07-18, meaning that your journal has been around for 905 days. What does this mean?

You are something of a dinosaur on Livejournal, having been around for over 2 years. You might even have one of those early adopter accounts. You probably joined Livejournal long before most of your friends, long before it was as popular as it was today. As a result, you are something of an icon in the community, and more than likely well known. Don't let it get to your head, or are you already bashing those poor newbies?

Your Livejournal Friends

Now let's talk about your friends list. You indicated that you have 118 LJ friends.
You are going a little overboard, don't you think? Okay, sure, your journal has been around a while, but still. You can't possibly be reading all of those journals, and you can't possibly say that they are all friends of yours. Let's be honest, you could probably do with going in and removing some of those names from your list, make it a little more reasonble, eh?

You also have been listed as a friend by 91 users.
You have quite a few people watching your list, and have become pretty popular. You are well established in the time you've had your journal, and now it looks like you've established yourself pretty well. Probably got around in a few of them Livejournal groups, probably have a lot of addbacks from your own friends list. How many of these people really know you, however?

Finally in this category, you have a friends to friends-of ratio of 1.2967032967033.
This is a relatively high ratio, meaning you add quite a few more people than have added you to their friends list. This may be a sign that you tend to add people fairly randomly to your list, although there is also a good chance that you simply do not advertise your own journal much, and don't expect too many people to be adding you back.

Your Posting Habits

You have indicated that to date, you have made 2960 entries into your Livejournal. This gives us an average post rate of 3.2707182320442 posts per day.
You are posting more than twice a day, making you quite the busy and avid LJ user. You don't hesitate to make your daily updates, telling the world what's been going on, and you may even update a few times in the day. More than likely you are throwing in webquizzes and random thoughts from time to time, and you might even see it fit to hop on to the computer and update with every little mood swing you encounter!

Your Commenting Habits

According to your information, you have posted 17251 comments and have recieved 9056 of them over the lifetime of your journal. Let's see what this information can mean.

First of all, this indicates that you have been getting an average of 3.0594594594595 comments for every Livejournal entry that you make.
With an average of at least 2 comments per post or greater, you enjoy a healthy dialogue with your friends and get a lot of response to what you have to say. You might also be posting those silly web quizzes, or making entries that are so interesting or so unusual that people can't help but to comment. Either that, or you just have a buttload of friends.

A more fair measure of how many comments you get might be your average number of comments per post per friend, which is 0.025927622537792. This may seem low to you, especially if you have lots of friends.

The final statistic is the ratio of your comments to comments you get. Your ratio is 1.9049249116608. The higher the ratio, the more talkative you are compared to your friends, comment-wise.

That's it for now! Perhaps there was something insightful in this analysis, and perhaps you learned absolutely nothing. Feel free to post your results on your own Livejournal, and invite your friends to take the Livejournal Analysis today!

My response:
  • I do indeed have an Early Adopter account. If they did a little research, they could find out when Paid accounts came into existence and not guess.
  • It doesn't matter whether I tell it 118 friends (people only) or 165 (people and communities), it still says "that's a lot! you can't possibly be reading all of those." In fact, I do read all of every personal journal I've listed as a friend, and most of the non-photo communities, with the exception of a bit of skimming if I'm pressed for time.
  • Related to the above, it doesn't differentiate between personal journals and communities, probably because the user would have to manually do some math to count for that.
  • An individual-friends:friends-of ratio of 1.29 isn't particularly high. I don't add people randomly--I only add after reading back a lot first--and I don't advertise my journal or expect addbacks--nor should people expect addbacks from me.
  • I very rarely post webquizzes, and don't post "with every moodswing".
  • "Comments-received per post per friend" is almost necessarily going to be low. "This may seem low to you, especially if you have lots of friends" is misleading--of course it's going to be lower the more friends you have.
  • No analysis of "average comments per day" to see how crazy you are about posting comments.
  • "The higher the ratio, the more talkative you are compared to your friends, comment-wise" is a crappy analysis.
  • They should really spell "analysis" right. And title the document. And provide contact information.

Fffft. I read all mine, too. Just because THEY read slowly doesn't mean the rest of us do. :P

Well, what can you expect from a form that you just plug numbers into? They can only make guesses about what sort of person might be behind the numbers. Rather like a fortune teller, don't you think?

Wow, they insult the size of my friend list too -- its' small! Humbug.

I wonder if they make any relation between age of journal and size of friends list?

    Date: 2003-01-11 10:07 am (UTC)
    From: [identity profile] skreidle.livejournal.com
True, except that fortune tellers rarely have any relevant information to start with. This at least starts with hard numbers. :)

Unless I'm overlooking something, there's no indication anywhere in the quiz page or results that arkyandragon exists as a LiveJournal user (though one might assume), or that that post exists..

Look at where the 'analasys' is hosted:

    http://arkyandragon.port5.com/lj_ana.htm

I just plugged 'arkyandragon' into LJ search and scrolled through some of his entries.

So why are you asking "what do you mean, find?"? That's how you found it. A well-designed web page has contact info already included. :)

I wasn't sure if "how am I supposed to find that?" meant "how did you find it?" or "there's something wrong with your comment," as in, "I'm not finding anything in your comment."

No, no. Just wondering if I was overlooking something in the quiz that directly pointed to contact info w/o searching. :)

I want both of you to stop. Read this damn thread. That's the most confusing thing I've ever seen in my life. How in the HELL do you two know what each other are even saying at this point ?!?

Don't blame me, I think I got it fairly soon after it came out, as its creator only posted something about it on the 10th. :)
