If you bought any pre-recorded music between 1/1/95 and 12/22/00, you're probably entitled to a few dollars in this class-action settlement.

It's between $5 and $20.

That should be between $5 and $20 per album purchased.

I'm aware of this, but we don't really have any say in the settlement. :)

(And realistically, $5-$10. Most albums don't actually cost $20, and that money just idn't available.)

And did you notice that if it comes out to less than $5/person because so many people sign up, consumers won't get the money?

Yeah, but I'm ok with that 'cuz it goes to charity in that case.

I don't honestly much care one way or the other--I mean, whether I personally get money or not. Overall, giving it to charity/etc. would be best.

As far as CD prices are concerned--I rarely buy CDs, partly due to lack of income, partly due to refusal to pay $20 for something that costs less than $1 to produce, and likely less than $1 of which actually gets back to the artist.

If CDs cost $10/ea, I'd be much more willing to buy them.

That would be the prefered outcome. What kind of useless crap is it to distribute pointless amounts of money to a bunch of random people anyway? The lawyers are the only ones benefiting from that lawsuit. That kind of crap should be illegal, but it obviously is not.

Stupid... distributing small amounts of money for no purpose ... kind of like the Bush tax cuts. Idiots.

Here's what I want to know: Where is the damages money going to come from?

My bet is that it'll be just like the tobacco industry with cigarettes: they'll put the cost of the damages in to the price of CDs, keeping prices as high as ever. Way to go, lawyers. I'd really rather they just stop the price fixing and end it there.

One might be inclined to call that a pipe dream, unfortunately.

As is, I rarely buy CDs, partly due to lack of income, partly due to refusal to pay $20 for something that costs less than $1 to produce, and likely less than $1 of which actually gets back to the artist.

If CDs cost $10/ea, I'd be much more willing to buy them.
