Back in October sometime--9th or 10th--I came across [livejournal.com profile] evelynne in a comment thread of [livejournal.com profile] evilegg's. Her primary journal is over on Diaryland, and at the time was at entry #322. (Coincidentally, one of the first five people she added was [livejournal.com profile] kitters, whom I've been reading for a while now.)

So, starting early, early in the morning on the 25th, I looked at a few LJ entries, hopped over to Diaryland, and went back to the beginning--dating to 6/26/00. Having no comments available over there, I've sent almost 20 emails instead so far, starting with a poll at entry #36.

This afternoon, I was in the low 220s. As of just now, I've caught up to entry 322, and only have another 10 to go to be up to date.. then, on to the LJ!

Actually, I'll probably go out to the Manassas Battlefield and see if I can spot any meteors before touching the LJ. :)

Update, 11:30pm: Caught up on Diaryland, one more email sent, looking at LJ--274 entries (6/5/01-present), but several of them seem to be "Hey, update to Diaryland!" [linked] which is damn handy for my lazy LJ-friends-page-reading self. :)

Incidentally, I have a lot of Barenaked Ladies mp3s. Listened to all of Barenaked Summer Night (2hrs+, 33 tracks) earlier, and I'm about 30 minutes into my other 33 assorted tracks (another 2hrs+). :)

Good grief.

There are only a few journals where I've read back into the archives like that. And I don't know that I had to read more than two years' worth. I don't think I've done it at all in the last year because I've been so busy. I still can't believe you've read the whole thing.

I think you'll find that the LJ entries are mainly "new journal entry" types. I joined LJ for the community, but wanted to keep my actual journal all in one easily-navigable place. I still hate the LJ calendar view -- pain in the butt when reading people who don't update every day (like me, for instance).

I don't think anyone's ever read back all the way in my journal--I'd be far too daunted by my own 2.5 years, 2800 entries. :) Most commonly, I just read the latest 75 entries in an LJ--as far as "recent entries" view will let me see before jumping into calendar view. I don't know why there hasn't been code implemented to let you automatically skip empty days.. I know there's issues about entry security, but the calendar shows a total number regardless of whether you can view it or not--and it shouldn't be hard to just check through successive entries to see if the viewer is allowed to read them.

Sometimes I'll just view a day, jump back to the calendar, wash, rinse, repeat. (My mouse also has a button that lets me page back in a browser, so that makes it easier.)
