Movie #2 of the three my mom rented recently was The Majestic, starring Jim Carrey in the McCarthy era, doing a fine job in a dramatic role.. I really liked this movie. =)
Missed some rather significant parts of the movie that way.
That's why I don't leave movies early, or books unfinished, with very few exceptions--I like to be able to form an opinion based on the whole work, not just part of it.
Can't fault you for that without hypocrisy, since I did the same after an hour and a half of Godfather2--alternating 30 seconds of excitement with 20 minutes of boredom--and realizing there was still half the movie to go.
I liked The Majestic. But I like sappy, feel-good movies sometimes, and I didn't find any of it as terrible as you two did.. to each his own.

I made that assumption based on the whole McCarthy era ridiculousness, fighting for rights stated in the Constitution, that sort of thing.

If the studio couldn't craft an enticing beginning of the film, I didn't particualrly want to stick around to see what else they would fail to craft.
