Sorry, Rick, Seagate doesn't seem to currently have any job openings for a recently-graduated MechE, but thanks for the suggestion. :)

Ah yes, well, tough time to break into most any industry right now, I'm afraid. We're in the lucky position of being able to hire experienced people away from almost any competitor right now. All that can change very quickly, of course, but for now, life here is good.

By the way, I can speak from 3 years of experience -- no loss on skipping Northrop Grumman. Sucky company, IMO. Bad case of old-school defense contractor-itis. The goal is mediocrity in all things. Didn't like the company much at all. My individual work group was great - the best I've ever worked in. Alas, 4 out of 5 of us fled the company, even though they made incredible incentive offers for us to stay. That in itself says something about how unpleasant the company was. Although I'm sure different sites and groups have completely different experiences.

Another general detail: you might not want to overlook a company that doesn't have "many" openings. Remember that you don't need many openings, you just need 1.

Good luck!

True enough--I've applied to one or two relevant positions at the companies that chose that route over general applications. However, there's really nothing for me at some companies.

I've heard equally bad things about General Dynamics.. at least two people have warned me away from them, from personal or second-hand experience.
