Huzzah! Internet access!

Beth's house seems to have a nice, fast cable modem setup (or something similar) so I can get my daily internet fix. :)
So, yesterday I traveled to Boston with Jon Peck, a guy who lives in my house that I met through a Science and Tech Studies class a couple years ago. He's dating a girl in Boston, Ania, and frequently visits her on weekends--hence it was no imposition to take me along this weekend. :) He drove first, while I played with my GPS and waited and waited for a signal. It took until somewhere on 206E, almost to 88 (a good 40 mi from Ithaca), to get a signal, but then it was nicely accurate (with acceptable offsets of half a block or so) for the remainder of the trip. I drove the rest of the way--nice and easy in his VW Jetta with a V6 and cruise control--and he played with my GPS and his laptop. (He was working on webpage design, video editing, and piping my mp3s through his tape deck.)
Around 10:30 (the time Beth said she'd be home) we were nearing her exit off 90, so we gave her a call to see if she wanted to join us at the Blue Cat (a club/lounge/bar in Boston), but she was awaiting the return of her two housemates for birthday cake. So, Jon and I continued into Boston--we did a Chinese fire drill at the last toll booth outside of Boston so that he was driving in the city--where we hit heavy traffic. A Red Sox game had probably just let out, so the streets were packed, and the drivers were as bad as in any large city, and parking was scarce. We found a decent space, but it turned out to be Resi-permit only, so we had to move. Through the guidance of Ania by phone, and my GPS's map of Boston, we then quickly found where we needed to go, found parking, and realized that we'd just parked 30 feet from our destination. Score! We met Ania and Ricky Morse inside, had a martini each (I had a Cappucino Martini) and I had a beer (Blue Moon Belgian Ale); then we left, dropped off Ricky at his place, and dropped me off at Beth's (after giving me contact time and numbers for Jon & Ania for today).
At Beth's, I met her two rats, Seamus and Pinky, and got a tour of the townhouse, and was given free use of their electronics (TV, many attached devices) and the kitchen, and Beth's computer on its cable connection when she's out. We then hung out and chatted for a good hour and a half (until she had to go to sleep so she could get up around 6 or 7), talking about school, project partners, class credits, class-free days, PE classes, equestrian, annoying teachers, etc. I also got directions to the bus, a map of Boston and the subway system, her aquarium volunteer-in-training pass--free admission to all the museums, so that I can entertain myself for the time she's at work, 7-5ish. Also, I can find Jon and Ania at her work and hang out with them. :)
