AudioGalaxy has, in fact, gone down the toilet. There's a lot of this now:

SEARCH PROHIBITED You cannot request this song due to copyright restrictions. Please try a different search.

P.S. Oh, that can't be good, either. Kazaa/Morpheus have implemented a more centralized encryption routine, which a) could make them more susceptible to these same lawsuits everyone else is getting, and b) makes open-source accessibility to the network much more difficult, if not impossible.

Indeed. So damned frustrating. I told the thing to take a proverbial flying leap. All my downloads are now done through Mopheus/Kazaa, and praise be to them!

Thing is, AG always had more extensive results than Morpheus/Kazaa, and it can automatically download in the background.

That, and I have to kill WebWasher if I want to use Morpheus/Kazaa, because they won't run otherwise..

Always happens whenever you think you've found something good, not so?

Still, I don't mind non-extensive searches or non-auto downloads, because (on average) I can d/l more at once than I ever could w/ AG, and I'm not a sticker for variety- if it's a full version and not distorted, I'll take it.

After all, it's true what they say- in life, you can get goods and services in three ways: fast, in good quality, and cheap. Pick two.

Yeah, I always use Morpheus anyway.. only went to AG when Morpheus didn't pan out. :)

heh. I haven't used Audiogalaxy since my college firewalled it (they blocked all connections to the master servers...).

Kind of a shame, though it was bound to happen eventually.

Me, I'm *really* pissed off at the FastTrack people for deliberately disabling giFT. (http://gift.sourceforge.net/press_9_29_01.html)
's funny. Since getting MP3s became inconvenient, and I've had enough steady income to be able to afford it, I've actually been buying albums from artists that I like. What an idea.

Well, getting mp3s hasn't become inconvenient enough vs. my part-time job income while a college student to push me to purchase.. I'm sure after I leave college and get a real job, my purchasing will increase.

Sucks about giFT, though.

THat's why you search around for badly-named versions, sweetcheeks.

Doesn't change the fact that probably 80% of their search results are now unavailable..

I guess they just haven't learned that centralized servers just don't stand up in a court of law..

How irritating. If LimeWire were any good, i'd migrate to gnutella, but it sucks (unless you're looknig for pr0n). I refuse to use morpheus/kazaa because they're bloated and buggy.

Goodness, but this sucks.

Which also sucks, because Morpheus/Kazaa have a better network setup and protocol than Gnutella, what with supernode search trees and piece-wise file transfers.. I use them anyway, because I could frankly give two shits about spyware, and they usually find what I'm looking for. Or eDonkey2000 for movies.

On a spyware note, I ran Ad-Aware the other day and while it did indeed find dozens of nasty bits running on my computer, I don't want to blithely remove them all for fear of disabling some of my programs--Kazaa, for instance, will die if you remove inappropriate portions of its spyware-ness.

Bastards.

I try to keep a clean ship. Sometimes it will hardly ever work, though.

well, the obvious answer to that is, if more people with something to share OTHER than porn used Gnutella, well, there'd be more than porn there. Even an avalanche has to get started somehow.

and I've used AG to download many an MP3.... what were you looking for that you got blocked out from?

WheneverI use LimeWire, about 10,000 people try to grab divine comedy mp3s from me. Bless their little cotton socks, I am very glad I'm not on dialup!

UI only really use AG for obscure things at the moment - the Goon Show, I'm Sorry, I Haven't A Clue, Spike Milligan, some Neil Gaiman. No music - i have 8G already. But it's a pity that I can't get the rest of those Eels (SoulJacker) mp3s I wanted (grr). I wanted to hear the stuff before the album came out.

Are you the same "subbes" from the goats-fans mailing list?

Yes, in the past.. but try looking up (for example) Metallica, or They Might Be Giants, and you'll be seeing a lot of those Xs.

Well, you gotta expect that Metallica is going to be a special exception, given how much of an uptight prick Lars Ulrich became...

As for TMBG, what you want? I give you.

Those were just examples of bands that returned Xs, not ones I was actually looking to download. :)
