Gettin' rid of stuff

So Katia and I finally got around to taking the books I rescued from the dumpster back at the beginning of the semester, and a good pile of clothes that no longer fit or whatever, to the used/trade stores downtown..

At Trader K's, sold about half the clothes and donated the rest, acquiring about $37 in store credit and a working knowledge of what's Out (flannel, light-blue jeans, black jeans) or at least too available from the public.

At one used book store (Ithaca Books), they wouldn't take any books at all. This is ridiculous, because most of them are in good condition and certainly of interest to someone. The other (Autumn Leaves Used Books) took three, giving me $4 in store credit. I then got The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe¹ for Katia (she hasn't read it), and Mastering Pool² for me--might as well, since I have a table in the house. :)
For the rest of the books, I suppose I'll go to used bookbuyers on the web. :P

1: "For copyright reasons this edition is not for sale in the U.S.A." Oops.
2: This title is out of print. But hey, pool can't have changed much in the last 24 years. :)

Yeah, a little.. a little hole-in-the-wall store that thinks they have the good stuff in rare and out-of-print books.

Autumn Leaves is much nicer--younger staff, bright, open, large store, with a café upstairs--I'd never been in there before.

that was where i ran into psycho-ex. in autumn leaves. she came in the back door, i in the front. we met in the middle. [shudder] don't think i can go there ever again. ;-)

Well, it wouldn't make a financial difference to me if you bought it or not.. it's not consignment, just trade-in. But I'm sure they have a good stock of flannel, if they're being picky about what they take.

actually what i meant is that when i buy things at used-clothing stores, i like to know where they came from. (this means i don't shop at used-clothing stores much.) of course, you're probably too old now to have had a bunch of clothes that say "KREIDLER" on the tag in permanent marker :( ohwell, i'll look for anything you describe. (yay other people's clothes -- i'm wearing sylvie's right now. *steal*)

Nah, they weren't even all mine, so I can't describe them well anyway. My personal flannel shirts are going to charity (y'know, they're not Gap or Banana Republic or high-fashion or whatever), so the ones at TK's are random. I'll buy anything used if it's good quality, and just wash it first. :)

Murgatroyd, isn't it? As in that cartoon cat's "Heavens to Murgatroyd!"
