..but as chance would have it, tonight's second movie was Platoon.
...damn.

(For a damn fine first-hand account of that particular hell, Ring of Steel was an amazing book. I can't find a link to it, but I'm pretty sure that was the title.)

...try The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien. excellent book. it's a series of vignettes, so it can be done in several (dozen) sittings.

Actually, that's one I've been meaning to read for a few years (since I read some selections from it), and I finally picked up a semester or two ago.. haven't read it yet, but at least I own it now. :)
