I just watched Thirteen Days, which details the 1962 Cuban Missle Crisis--something I really knew nothing about. Watching it awake today (it really bears paying attention and not falling asleep, like last night), it held me in thrall for two and a half hours. It really was that good. :)

(And if you don't know the details of the Bay of Pigs invasion, you might want to read this before watching the movie--it'll help set the scene.)

don't ever watch The Missiles of October if you can avoid it. it's on the same subject, but horribly done. i had to watch it freshman year for naval science. argh.

Oddly enough, it's gotten a 7.2/10 from IMDB on 101 votes, the only apparent complaint being "it's too long".

Of course, Thirteen Days got a 7.8/10 on 2966 votes.
