Took me an hour fifteen to get to Herndon from home today, a trip that should take more like 30-40 minutes. Damn traffic. We then ended up only being able to do a little of the work needed, because the truckload of equipment, supposed to arrive this morning, hadn't, and had an unknown arrival time. So, we returned to the office and had lunch. In the afternoon, I practiced on a system in-house, and got some paperwork. By 4pm, weather was beautiful, and traffic was mostly good. :)
Oh, and while at the site today--a data management, hosting, and backup provider called
RackSpace--I learned that one of the oil companies, possibly ExxonMobil deals with things like this: One workstation, directly connected to 4TB of storage, that spends a week processing that geospatial data--amounting to a 1/4 square mile (or maybe 1/4 mi. square), 30-mile-deep core. It spends a week processing, then backs up that data and gets another 4TB. As such, they need quite a bit of backup available.
