Sue & Mike's wedding
Jul. 4th, 2004 01:24 amThat was a lot of fun. :)
It would've been a little easier to find the Tower Club if Tower Crescent Drive actually had a sign, rather than making me backtrack down 7 and guess that the main road into Tyson's Corner Mall was the right road--but I was still there on time. In the lobby upstairs--17th floor, two elevators in sequence to get there--I ran into
smandas, and later into
tckma and his girlfriend Angie (in from Toronto, I think), not to mention Chris and Heather (whom I recognized and vice versa, but we don't remember why). Met some nice other folks later, including Hubert and Charlton, as well as some of Susan's family in from Switzerland--very nice folks, if not always easy to talk to, as their native language is German, and her dad's a trip. :D
The ceremony took place in the atrium of the Tower Club, and was delightfully brief; the decor was tastefully done in dark red and white. There was then an extended cocktail hour--open bar--down the hall, featuring assorted tasty hors d'oeuvres and a splendid view of 495, 7, 123, and assorted hotels and commercial establishments in the Tysons Corner area. (The cocktail hour was long enough to give the bride and groom time to run off to a nearby park for photographs, before returning for dinner.)
Dinner was also quite nice, and featured a chocolate at each place in the shape of a DC-area landmark--the Washington Monument, the Pentagon, the Capitol, the White House, and Gadsby's Tavern. (Our table was the only one with a variety, and the head table was the only one with the Capitol. Our table was also almost entirely Cornell folks. :) At some point during dinner, the wedding planner came around offering cards that explained the significance and history of each of the landmarks--good thing, too, because we couldn't recognize Gadsby's. :) Her dad gave a rather amusing speech afterward.
Then it was back to the atrium for first dances (awwww), bouquet, garter--given by design to the boyfriend of the girl who caught the bouquet--and cake-cutting, followed by several hours of dancing. I danced my fair share, impressing several people with my apparent skillz, and hung out on the balcony with Tom and Angie talking about Canada, music, and Canadian music, as well as watching some of the Fairfax fireworks shows we could see in the distance.
And 'cause I'm just that good, photos up already! (Admittedly, several of them highlight my camera's inability to photograph well in darker situations, but I like the photos anyway. :)
