This afternoon, I requested time off work (May14) so I can go to my cousin's graduation in Mississippi (followed by a Saturday in New Orleans!) Even if I get assigned a trip, it won't leave in the next two weeks (or likely the next four), so it won't interfere with anything. :)

After work, Christina came over, we watched some Halo as Nathan played, then TV (Jeopardy, some Star Trek, some Friends, the Steve Harvey segment involving the harmonica kid and Stevie Wonder), then I made dinner. And then, Seabiscuit, which I borrowed from a co-worker last week sometime. Really good movie--great acting, script, filming, and editing.
I think it's better to break a man's leg than his heart.

Christina left, and Nathan and I watched the 2nd-to-last Friends episode, which I'd set to tape for him. (Why's it ending? Why why why? And Frasier too! Such good shows!)

And over here in [livejournal.com profile] thedogcommunity, we have a probable troll raising hackles about pit bulls. Check out the fracas, chip in with your opinion if you don't mind potentially feeding a troll. Personally, I think pit bulls are great--I've met more than a few sweet, loyal, gentle pitties, and don't think they deserve the Bad Rap they've received--at worst, no more deserved than scores of breeds the media ignores, to say nothing of each individual dog's upbringing.

1) Lenscrafters in Springfield Mall. Got them to have my records transferred from Manassas Mall, got an eye exam, had 2-week-disposable toric (astigmatism-correcting) lenses* ordered, walked out wearing an almost-correct-prescription trial pair, and carrying an eyeglass prescription in case I want to update my glasses.

* This is the first time I've tried torics--my first 6-month set were normal lenses, my replacement 6-month set (of which I used 2 lenses, and hope to return the two unopened boxes for refund) were also normal, but I stopped wearing them in Australia since they weren't correcting enough.

2) Radio Shack. Picked up a digital indoor/outdoor thermometer (my goal in going there, since my old one crapped out due to aftereffects of battery corrosion in storage), as well as a clock for the bathroom, AA batteries, and a 14-foot Cat5e cable for $12 (vs. the $20-25 that Best Buy would charge) so all three computers can be online at once.

3) Petsmart. Visited the adoptable cocker spaniels, the severe macaw in the big cage, the African grey in a smaller cage, and picked up crickets (beardie and T), superworms (beardie), and a laser pointer for Puck. :)

4) SunTrust. Deposited the Geico refund check and grabbed some cash.

Tomorrow, there's an open house at Coleman in Woodbridge, which I'll check out at some point; I also need to check into the Joe Rocket warranty (on a card downstairs) to see if the failing snap is an issue to be handled by the store or the company.

[livejournal.com profile] skamille points out an interesting series of polls--you answer some initial questions, and then read counterarguments vs. your position for a few rounds before being asked again. Interesting!

From Snopes, via a comment to [livejournal.com profile] pictsy's post: While the owner of Curves fitness centers may be adamantly pro-life, his donations come from his own pocket, and there's no reason to link the Curves centers themselves to militant pro-life causes.

Hehe! "How much do you gotta bomb people to get 'em to quit hating you?"

PA: "you wanted me out, and I'm out, God dammit. It's not my fault your world orbits a ball of fire."

This is one of my favorite TtWS songs. :)
