From one of [livejournal.com profile] iriantuu's friends:

Headed over to Latebra shortly before 8, and joined Jillian, Oscar, AJ, Kit, and Alex in Alex's car for the trip to Tilley's, which doesn't seem to announce itself as Tilley's anywhere. Joined Steve, Dom, Mitchell, and Alex's friend with a name I can't remember. We sat around and shot the breeze for the next 2.5 hours or so, had some delectable desserts, and Steve read off some numerology and palmistry--which he doesn't believe in at all, but he's well-versed. :)

We returned to Latebra, lost Jillian to work, and it was.. me, Oscar, Kit, AJ, and other girl. They cooked up some steak, eggs, and hash browns, we watched endoftheworld.swf, listened to RHCP and Moulin Rouge, various people tried to fix the inflatable red "Stress Buster" bat that Alex had busted the other day, but -I- succeeded in patching the leaks, and eventually we departed shortly before 1 so Oscar and AJ could get some sleep. :)

And now, Alex and I--via our separate routes--will shortly head over to Insomnia to hang out with Jillian and generally have a good time. :)

Book!

Oh yeah, one other thing. While at the National Museum of Australia the other day, Jillian Kit picked me up a copy of Aussie English for Beginners: Book Two. Quite entertaining--including illustrations--and potentially useful to boot. :) (Among its gems are "chunder" (to vomit, or vomit itself) and the fact that the word "didgeridoo" is not Aboriginal in nature, but instead came from English speakers' pronunciation of Irish dúdaire dubh 'black horn-blower'. [And alternate possible origin is English phonetics for how the instrument sounds, but the other etymology is more interesting. :) ])

[livejournal.com profile] baranoouji: Also, why we electricians have a high hazard risk. Sparks 'n' arcs! Best bring that ∞Ω insulation... Reminds me of all the stories I used to hear about people getting chased by plasma balls.
(a.k.a. video and related story of a ½ million volt switch failing to interrupt the current when it opened)

Followup from [livejournal.com profile] arkady to [livejournal.com profile] subbes's post about said incident: High Voltage Arcs 'n' Sparks. Exploding transformers! Huge arcs! Exploding cranes! Nifty high-voltage electronic equipment! :D

Also from [livejournal.com profile] baranoouji, a horrifying exchange about RotK:

From [livejournal.com profile] yournailbunny: Re: Da Vinci's Notebook's Enormous Penis: OTTAWA (Reuters) - A song lauding the joys of an "enormous penis" is not obscene because the object of the lyric's affection isn't necessarily sexual, a Canadian regulator has ruled.

[livejournal.com profile] futuregirl, on weather: So...You think YOUR weather is bad?

Quitcherbitchin'.

I didn't think a weather condition existed that could be called "Freezing fog." Why don't they call it "Death to all motorists" instead, it'd be easier.

Worked almost a full day on this here Saturday, pulled lots of wire, which was harder than it should've been. Rode home in ridiculous wind, to the point that I chose to walk my bike across the Commonwealth bridge over the lake. Stopped to watch a couple of catamaran sailors attempt to right their small craft.. once they got it up and it flipped right to the other side; eventually it almost grounded on rocks when they got help from a passerby who stripped down to shorts and waded/swam in to help. Around 4:30, had lunch at Chicken Gourmet (next to O'Malley's, where I had a very tasty chicken sandwich.)

And now, a short bit demonstrating how The Princess Bride has enriched my life, and what I'm doing for dinner:
No great fool )
