So yes, I'm safe and sound in Canberra, haven't located internet for my laptop, and so I was checking via webmail.. and accidentally deleted all my new email, including livejournal comments, from 12/1 through current. So, if you recall commenting to me--in any post--in the last week, and could find where that was, please comment with addresses or, you know, anything that would help. *sigh*

(Excluded are my own posts since I left home, as those are easy to find.)

I suppose I could email everyone I sent mail to in the last month or so asking them to resend anything sent in December.. :P

Unfortunately it's only dialup, as it seems Canberra isn't quite important enough (or compact enough) to get wireless anywhere. (All it has is a Linux users group trying to set one up elsewhere. :P)

I learned this by wandering all over this bit of the city, finding first one closed internet cafe (closes at 5 or 6pm daily), the former location for The Internet Barracks (a public lab targeted at gamers), and eventually the current location (much closer to my hotel than I'd wandered.) A web search revealed this dearth of wireless access, and a perusal of a list of Australian ISPs and their various terms/plans/whatnot, I picked Dodo, at $9.90/mo/70MB, plus a nominal charge per MB over, capped at $23.90/mo. Assuming I don't transfer much, I'll have a cheap monthly bill, and if I transfer a lot, it'll still be decent. (However, I do get charged $0.80/call by the hotel, so I'll have to limit my number of calls.)

Anyhow, a lengthy catch-up post is already composed, and is forthcoming. :)
