It's freakin' cold in my house, and by "cold" I mean "63F". My house is generally 68-72 year round, and since the heat pump (which should be fixed today, hopefully) isn't working right, we're on resistance-heat only, and that just can't keep the house warm. Thus, I'm cold. Also, I'm concerned for my bird, who's naturally tropical and shouldn't be subjected to temps like this, but for whom I don't have a space heater.

Mar. 10th, 2003 05:01 pmSet alarm for 0530, got up around 0545, left around 0630 to take care of [Steph & Matt's] dogs before work. Damn early schedule. Nothing special about work, though a disturbing number of tanks seem to be getting fungal infections--Ray treated the whole system to try to knock that out. (Some fish seemed particularly affected--~15 dead white lyretail mollies, for example. ~50 total, this morning, a few more throughout the day.) Got wrapped up in talking to some customers about aquariums, and birds, and noticed it was 1530 and thus past time for me to go. :) Also, put in the time-off requests for the Cornell-sponsored shark presentation at the National Aquarium in Baltimore on 22Mar, and Cirque du Soleil with SarahScott et al on 13Apr, also in Baltimore.
Some remarkable stories on Oprah today--my mom's watching.
1) A white family of four living in a 1500sf, 1.5bath house fosters and then adopts a family of 7 black children whose dad can't take care of them. They're a very close-knit family now, have moved into a larger house, and spend something like $2K/mo on groceries. :) (They also won the bid for that new reality show depicting an amazing family life.)
2) Twin sisters, separated at birth by adoption, adopted by two American families. Neither girl knows the other exists; only one mother knows there are twins--she found out at the time of adoption and chose not to tell her daughter, not knowing how she'd react. Both families end up in different parts of New York. Both girls enroll in the same college and and up meeting through a mutual friend and realizing their relationship. How's that for a shocker? (What's even cooler is that the girls have almost identical tastes in clothes, music, and activities, as well as mannerisms. :)
3) Also, a "daughter meeting her biological dad for the first time after 18 years" story, which was quite heartwarming but not as amazing as the above two. :)
I need to remember to reaffix the heat shield on the top of the catalytic converter on my truck--it's been loose for a while now, and the rattling is kind of annoying. :P
The motor on the house's heat pump needs replacing, not just a component or two. Bah. (I may borrow the space heater from Steph & Matt's rec room on my bird's behalf until that's fixed. Hope that's ok with them. ;)

Amusement!
Mar. 10th, 2003 11:04 pmAmusing journal addition--
classytart, by way of
grammar_whores. She reminds me of
dotgirl, which is a good thing.
As an example, she was discussing the people on the train discussing the movie Minority Report, and followed it with "Morons, you see." Also, she anthropomorphizes her computer, which isn't
dotgirly but is from a similar mind. :)
From her bio: I stay up too late most nights, and have an over-developed sense of 'silly'. I rate it very highly.
Currently,
dotgirl's mood is "full of potato". :)
