Friday evening: Stopped by Petsmart to get my schedule for the week, which I learned had lately made its way to the answering machine at home (Shauna was out, parents went to dinner), and visited Christina. Called Nathan, drove over to his place, watched a little TV (I think). Then drove up to his friend Alissa's place in Potomac, MD, stopping briefly to ogle the Porsches (new and old) in one sales lot on the way. The house was a mansion among mansions--two-story entryway, split central stairwell with a balcony level a tthe 2nd floor, oak and leather office, formal dining room with 15-foot table, kitchen the size of my kitchen plus family room, billiards and piano room, family room with 20+ foot ceiling and slate fireplace to the ceiling, large deck and trampoline and playground out back, etc.
Anyway, Nathan knew Alissa and several other guests from past theatre work. We all hung out for a while, eating candy and cake (including one with so much rum you could smell it a few feet away), and playing pool, then watched Y Tu Mamá También --quite good, if a little strange, definitely foreign. I still want to learn Spanish. :) After that, no other movies were watched, though Singin' in the Rain and American Beauty were options. A dice game called Greed was played for a good while, and then the remaining few people went to sleep. (Also listened to the great soundtracks for Grosse Pointe Blank, which I had heard several times before seeing the movie, and for Empire Records, which I still haven't seen but want to.)
Saturday: Got up around noon, Alissa made pancakes and eggs, Nathan and I went back to his place. Played Resident Evil 0 for a couple hours, then went out and rented Resident Evil and watched it. Watched snippets of a wide variety of other movies (including The President's Man and its sequel, and another movie and its sequel, running concurrently with the first two) and shows on cable for a while, made some late dinner--including Nathan accidentally splitting open a bag of frozen food all over the floor--and eventually went to bed after more TV/movies.
Sunday: Got up around 11, watched The Thin Red Line, interspersed with a bit of a National Lampoon and It.. wasn't very impressed. Nothing new thematically or stylistically, just another "war is bad" movie, with odd inner monologue bits. Kept seeing ads for U-571, though, which I still want to see. Left around 2, came home, had lunch, got my two messages that Esther called and one from Christina (and one from work including my schedule, which I already got.)
24 emails (half of them spam), 100+ new posts, and two days of comics..
