Looked through the search results from the sites that say "You've got more job listings, come look!" instead of "Here are the job listings!" by email. (Monster.com, WashingtonJobs.com.) Didn't find much, but applied to two positions with SPARTA, Inc. and the Dept. of the Navy.

From Chris Baldwin, artist/writer of The Bruno Daily Times, 11/5/02:

"But I love art. I love it. And I don't like short stories. It's not about being "purist" or some high-brow crap. I love art. And to create it in any way other than from in me, something that i value and cherish, dampens and ruins it for me."

"i really think one of the worst thing that's happened to art in this country is that the really good artists go into writing movies or television, or the good artists go to marvel comics or disney. I think that only the exceptions, not the rules, have been giving the real breath of life to most of today's mediums."

"Hell, if any of you have created a body of work which you have pursued out of beauty and love for it, and feel it would be welcomed by not enough people to ever get "seriously" published, feel free to send me a copy, maybe i'll do it, or maybe help walk you through it and help sell it. I don't know. Just, if you draw comics, and love it, fuck marvel. fuck disney. Eat rice and beans and give the world something worth reading."

"Bruno will never make me a living, and nothing else so far seems to either. There's a joy I've only felt in that freedom of creating something which means SO MUCH to me, but it can also carry a hell of a price."

The full text is currently at the above link, most likely for the rest of November. In the future, it will probably be here.

One senator, one representative, some other position, two state constitutional amendments, two local referenda.
Did you?

Then I visited the macaw at PetsMart, picked up my pictures (including move-out from college, the Bay area, motorcycles, a hot rod, photos from flight, and one of my pumpkin) at Wal*Mart, and visited the scarlet macaw and deco conure at Petco. I don't like how they keep most of their birds there--spartan cages, almost no toys, in a separate room, etc. Not the healthiest or happiest birds, there.

From [livejournal.com profile] berserker's AIM profile (who never uses LJ anymore):
"Teach a man to fish, and you introduce another competitor into the overcrowded fishing industry. Give a man a fish, and you stimulate demand for your product"

I'll credit [livejournal.com profile] towerboy for this link, even though I saw it first, but he mentioned it in LJ:
Yesterday's Penny Arcade, 'cause it's damn funny. (Maybe it's for the best..)

After seeing this guy's comment on Airplane! to the effect of "anything that's out of style is boring", I had to see what else he had to say.

He writes poorly, he misses the point of movies, and he rates movies up or down for entirely the wrong reasons.

Note: I acknowledge he has a right to his opinion. However, he still writes poorly, and he considers, for example, Blade to be "one of the best 'Vampire' movies ever made", Hannibal "not worth seeing" because it's "violant" and had "the nasty things that no one else could imagine"; he liked Strange Days because "it shows what kind of cops there are in this world" and Usual Suspects because it makes the "good point" of "how criminals worked together with each other." Pearl Harbor was unrealistic ("I mean come on how unrealistic could it get.") because "tell me how a person could survive a luftwaffer attack." Just to name a few examples.

Eeeevil!

In case you were unaware, Boulder, Berkeley & Ithaca are the Axis of Evil, according to one ultraconservative group.
