The drive to Carson's was uneventful; his directions were good enough that I didn't need a map--just as well, since I forgot it. The drive from Oakton to Baltimore was also uneventful; finding parking took some work--there are a lot of one-way streets in that part of town. Parked in a lot that seemed suitable--confusing payment policies involving supposed-to-be-numbered spaced and an unmanned box of cash slots. We opted for "Don't pay, and risk the $25 fine" which worked out to cost $0. :)

Left coats in the car and walked a block to Trust--to the back of a line stretching most of the way down the block. Five or ten minutes later realized that this long long line was the Will Call line--for the fools who had the foresight to buy tickets in advance. Right around the corner was the "Need to buy tickets" line which had about 15 people in it and took no time at all.

The facility was really nice.. a basement set of lounges, the main dance floor, and a mezzanine level.. plenty of bars, quite stylish, great lights and sound.. only problem (which quickly became apparent and then got worse) was lack of space. Carson says Nation has easily twice the floor space, if not more, though not as classy. (Trust also has some massive vault doors in some doorways.. wonder what the place used to be?)

There were several people there who were stringing glow really well; it became a good-natured competition in one part of the floor. Carson's lights--one pair of motorized rotating triple lights, one pair of red/green/blue LED flashers from ThinkGeek--were frequently a hit, and got borrowed by several guys over the course of the night. Unfortunately, one of the motorized lights got broken by a careless raver; no hard feelings, but it wasn't reparable. ($10 at the toy store, no big loss--though I cut my hand breaking the broken one open to salvage the batteries. :P) He and I traded off lights most of the night, when we felt like dancing (and had room to.) He also had four black bracelets with strings of red LEDs that blinked on impact (like those shoes) looped into his rave pants, which was a cool effect.

Sasha (the main attraction) played a set that was easily three hours long; he and the other DJs were all pretty good. (I don't really have much club experience to draw on.) And there was no lack of attractive women in nice costumes. All in all, a good night, though more floor space (or fewer people) would've made it better.

Show ended right at 2 (after accounting for an encore or two); picked up many fliers for other upcoming shows on the way out. The car was blocked in when we got back to the lot, but the blockers were just leaving as well. Figured our way back to 95, and the rest of the drive home from Baltimore was uneventful (and with no traffic, only took about an hour.) Back to my car, back to 66 (by way of the Vienna Metro station because I missed the turn from Jermantown Rd to 123, and recognized some streets that got me to Vienna), and back home. Hungry! Have had a couple mini Baby Ruth candy bars; should probably have something more substantial. Or go to sleep, whichever actually happens.

..oh yes. When I pulled up at home, I realized that in removing items from my person for clubbing--down to money/cards, ID, and car keys--I neglected to bring my house key with me. I noted that the halloween lights outside were still on, which fortunately meant that the extension cord was still running out through the unlatched window. Pulled the screen, opened the window, climbed in, removed the cord, replaced the screen, and closed and locked up. Had the window been locked already, I would've had to ring the doorbell at 3:45am, and I doubt that would've gone over well.

Tonight, another movie night at Misty's!

Update, after waking up around 11am: Oh yeah.. there's a spare house key stashed outside the house which I forgot about. I would've really felt silly if I'd had to ring the bell, and then been reminded of that.

Friday Five

(I've now signed up for the reminder emails for Friday Five and Monday Mission, so I don't have to rely on other people posting them--Misty, today :)--to remember to do it myself.)

1. Were you raised in a particular religious faith?
Nope. My dad was raised Christian, my mom Jewish, we were allowed to choose for ourselves. We never went to church or temple, except when Shauna was singing in the choir for services; mom does the Hannukah candles and prayers. Easter and Christmas are times to decorate the house and see family. So in short, no.

2. Do you still practice that faith? Why or why not?
As a result, Steph chose Christianity (though I don't know where that's gone), and she and Matt used to attend Sunday services. I chose agnosticism with atheistic tendencies--I don't believe in the Christian representation of God; I acknowledge the possibility of higher powers that I can't comprehend, but I won't just take it on faith. (And I'm amused at the studies that show a decline in religious faith dirrectly correlated to an increase in education.)

3. What do you think happens after death?
You don't wake up. I can't guarantee that your consciousness/soul/whatever doesn't go on to do other things, but Heaven or Hell don't seem like plausible destinations.

4. What is your favorite religious ritual (participating in or just observing)?
Not sure, though in general I find pagan ceremonies a lot more interesting than more traditional religious ceremonies.

5. Do you believe people are basically good?
I like to think so, but that are a lot of influences out there that can turn people bad.

Ok, this is a cool survey, studying dialects around the country.. it's interesting to see how things are pronounced and named around the rest of the country, and the results are kinda cool too. :)

The extent of the stupidity and inattentiveness of drivers never ceases to amaze me.

This mix is even sillier than the original song.

And Niki posts as much as I do! I swear, Misty, your friends will be the death of me yet. Too much LJ, if there is such a thing. :)

And I'll be checking out [livejournal.com profile] therave soon, too. :)
