Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] reverend_dave!

In 1998, a group of young people, because they were disrespectful to their elders, were forced to kneel, handcuffed, on a hard floor for hours, facing walls. If they slept, they were slapped awake, and if they had to use the bathroom, they had to do so right there. Some faited, others threw up. At night time, they were allowed to sleep for a little while on a thin, hard mattress, still in cuffs. When they next day began, they went through the entire process over again.

If this was anywhere else, it would be a human rights violation. But it happened in the state of California, in the state's juvenile prison system.

The situation is not better in other states. Once, I ended up in juvenile hall in South Bend, Indiana, and even there - not a state juvenile prison, but the step below - the conditions would make it impossible for any person there too long to live a normal life afterward.

New in evilbitchnews: a stunning, controversial indictment of the diagnosis of AD(H)D and the entire field of psychiatry!

Outspoken with a lot of valid things to say. :)

I typed up this recipe for my mom because her old magazine-clipping copy was worn and grease-stained, and as it's quite tasty, I figured I'd post it here.

Minimal, really.
  • Got a Return to Sender mail, gave it a new envelope and address, and biked out to hand it off to a mailman.
  • Kept up with LJ and comics and Conversatron, as usual.
  • Went out to fetch topsoil for the guys transplanting a bush outside the expanding garage.
  • Watched an episode of Judging Amy. Pretty good.
  • Cleared my "repliables" email box while my dad was online in the evening.. only a week old stuff this time!
  • Cooked dinner, a tasty salisbury steak.
  • Watched some of Ed (good, would be better with background), watched The West Wing (decent, suppose it would be better as an ongoing story--not so great as a single episode), some of Law and Order (stopped partway through to do dishes).
  • Did dishes.

Oh, and yesterday I watched an episode of Hack. It's pretty good too.
  • Ah, Dan..

The Onion A.V. Club's Dan Savage on the merits of proper masturbation equipment. Silly parents.

Also, Toy-Buying Tips for Parents are entertaining. :)

And, some quality Onion links that showed up on my friends page earlier:
