This morning (in the nice 55-degree weather), I changed my truck's oil, and topped off the other oil in the transmission and rear differential--the trans was really low, it took something like 1.5 quarts to get it up to where it should be. I'm pretty sure I have some slow leaks, as evidenced by external oil on most of the lower engine parts. :P)
Peppermint Skittles and Spearmint Skittles are, though a frightening concept at first, quite tasty. Shauna prefers Spearmint, I like both. :)
My dad's home from the hospital! (Prostate removal surgery--went off without a hitch, and the cancer hadn't spread anywhere else!) =)!
I got to see
Ali today!
We met in the Foggy Bottom Metro station (I was coming in from Vienna, she was coming from wherever work is), and walked (through the very comfortable 50-degree weather)
walked to gtown
We found the theater without too much difficulty, got our tickets, and discovered that there's no fast food around there, and neither of us had eaten anything earlier except some candy (and some cookies she had in her bag).. but, such is life.
On the way into the movie we picked up handfuls of free samples of Lifesavers Kickerz (sweet & sour candy) and CoolMint Listerine PocketPaks Oral Care Strips (more on those later.)
The movie (Waking Life) was interesting.. visually kinda trippy (different animation style for every scene), message ranging from pretentious to thought-provoking.. I'd only recommend it if you like philosophical excursions, and take it with a grain of salt even then.
We then walked back via a different route--along part of the C&O canal, past a set of locks, which was really cool--and got back to the metro/GWU area much quicker than it took to get to Georgetown.. But, as we hadn't eaten yet, we started looking around. Apparently, either GWU students don't eat, they eat at campus facilities, or they leave campus to eat. There's pretty much no fast food, food, or shopping on the GWU campus.
However, we asked in a Tower Records we came across, and got directed around the corner to Lindy's Lion / The Red Lion, a nifty little three-level restaurant that was open until midnight. (Ali wanted to be back on the metro by 10 to ensure home arrival by midnight--her mom got pissy the night before when she got back a few minutes after.) The food, atmosphere, and service were good, and the Foggy Bottom Ale was quite tasty. :)
In the metro station after, I passed on the hellos and hugs that
Jen,
Erin, and
Damien either asked me to pass on, or would have if they'd thought of it, we took a Blue Line train one stop to Rosslyn, then I got off to transfer to Orange Line to get home.
The train out to Vienna was surprisingly crowded, but after a few stops it emptied out. I sat and read more from the LotR appendix, and then the older couple across the car from me struck up a conversation that ranged from Tolkien to college and the current job market.. the guy would've given me a card for his company, but alas, he was out.
Oh yeah, those Listerine strips--they're freaky. A little thin piece of cellophane-y material, 7/8" x 1.25", that dissolves on your tongue into a burst of breath-freshening, bacteria-killing Listerine-y goodness. Pretty freaky, but a lot easier than brushing right after a meal and a lot more discrete than breath spray :)
And that was my day. =)
Ooh! And my friend Lindsay, the one I missed because she went back to school before I could meet up with her, is going to be back in town tomorrow! It's not for very good reasons--she's a bit depressed, and having problems with people at school--but we get to hang out tomorrow!
