Well, that was disappointing.
Jul. 9th, 2001 12:23 amI was under the impression that Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was supposed to be this amazing, beautiful, glorious movie. I really don't know where that came from, or why it won any awards.
Hard-to-follow story, unbelievable characters, mediocre fight scenes with ridiculously unbelievable wirework.. the "fantasy" and "adventure" aspects (as categorized by IMDb) detract more than they add--suspension of disbelief was difficult if not impossible. As for any message the story was trying to present--it was presented in the most clichéd way possible. While the movie's pretty, this owes more to the inherent beauty of China and Chinese culture and architecture than to skill in production. The filming was also well-done, but that's not much of a saving grace in this movie.
Eh.. I was disappointed. I was expecting much more, for all the hype and awards.
