Just finished my part of the EE432 Computer Lab #2, originally due yesterday, extended through this afternoon. However, since today is Slope Day, I'd be damned if I was working past this morning. So, after work, I had to go to the computer lab, wait for someone to leave so I could enter (card-reader shuts off at midnight), figure out how to get the software to show me what I wanted, save that (data and screenshots) and go home. Managed to get nothing accomplished beyond a late-night snack before going to bed around.. 5? I forget.. and getting up at 7:15 so I could write it up in time for my 10am haircut appointment. Which I did, and it's done. Looks good, even. Go me!

BBQ @ Stan's last night :)
May. 4th, 2001 08:58 amOh yeah.. dinner last night was out at Stan's place, to which I was driven to and from at tremendous speeds in Simon's little Subaru. Excellent chicken&baked beans&chocolate cookies; met his dogs (Khan and Bubbles) and cats (Floyd, whose sibling Pink died a while ago; and another whose name I forget.) Khan's a big old dog, Bubbles is a golden retriever-ish puppy; Floyd is a gorgeous calico with blue eyes, and the other was all black; all were very friendly. Especially when offered food :)
Then Simon, Refugio, TJ, Omar, and I played a field-wide game of frisbee, with Refugio and TJ learning how to throw, Simon and I throwing pretty well, and Omar throwing dead-on at 50 meters. He kicks ass at soccer and foosball, too :)

Slope Day!
May. 4th, 2001 09:30 amSlope Day, for the non-Cornell-initiated, is a massive end-of-year party here, featuring an entire day of fun and drunkeness on Libe Slope (the huge expanse of grassy hill near the libraries, attended by many thousands of people. (There's a live camera here that sort of catches one end of Libe Slope, so you can usually see a good crowd by early afternoon.) There's also non-alcoholic activites down on west, "SlopeFest", featuring live bands and games and activities and such, with no alcohol allowed. This year there's an actual real band, Stroke9, who I'd never heard of before now.
I may go to my 11:15 class, haven't decided yet. May take the prof a beer, he'd appreciate it :)

Dry cleaners suck.
May. 4th, 2001 10:41 amI really have to stop waiting until Friday to try to get my tux (or suit, as the case may be) dry-cleaned. Why? Because apparently unless I drop it off before about 9am Friday, no one (including the "open daily 8am-9pm, 1-day professional dry-cleaning") can get it back to me before Monday afternoon, or particularly before the formal I have Sunday evening.
Wooooo that was fun :)
May. 4th, 2001 09:13 pmSo I got a haircut, and did go to my 11:15, which was passably interesting, and offered the prof a beer--he was amused, but couldn't take it then--he said he'd be on the slope later and try to find me :)
So I was on the slope from about 11:45-6:30, shirtless most of it (it was pretty hot till late afternoon, and I need a tan :)--don't think I burned. Had a couple jello shots, a few beers, and assorted mixed drinks from friends (Jungle Juice, Mimosa, straight Baileys, wine) over the course of the day, along with at least a couple liters of water.. took a lot of pictures of assorted friends, groups of friends, pretty girls, and the pandemonium that is Slope Day--will make some available after developing. I hung out with Seal guys, then wandered, found SCD people, found jugglers, found random people, wandered back to Seal (and the drink coolers) intermittently. Katia and her friends eventually showed up, and at 6:30ish the cops suggested everyone go elsewhere, so we went to a BBQ at SCD, I played yet more frisbee, and came home :)
Mmm, fun. /me is very tired now. And I have to be up at 9am tomorrow for the annual brotherhood canoe trip (~7mi, I think--3hrs of canoeing, from Alan Treman Marine park to Taughannock park).. then I get back and have a BBQ with the Robo teams out at Raff's (our advisor) house. Should be fun :)
