More Christmas music from TWP; ADIC holiday party, Midnight; Willy Wonka and Neil Gaiman

Usually I start my posts with an account of recent activity followed by links, but this takes precedence:

Check out the latest from The Winding Path--an awesome partly-electronic version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, with my sister ([livejournal.com profile] idoru) on vocals, brother-in-law ([livejournal.com profile] weeping_angel) on keyboard and electronic goodness, Shauna's roommate Jen on sax, and Jen's boyfriend Ben on French horn. While you're at it, check out the previous two years' releases--What Child is This and Carol of the Bells--at the same link. =)

First bit of heavy traffic on the way to the ADIC holiday party: Stopped traffic on the on-ramp from 7100 to 95N. Apparent cause: Stopped truck blocking the ramp. The guy behind me hung back far enough that I was able to back off of the ramp, head over 95, u-turn, and take the -other- 95N ramp. Clear sailing.
Second bit of heavy traffic: Much of the way to the Springfield interchange, no apparent reason.
Third: King Street in Alexandria, expected on a Saturday night.
Got to Two Nineteen around 1915, after knowing better than to try to find street parking, and heading for a nearby garage.

The dinner/party was pretty good--I got to meet several coworkers I'd never even seen before, including a big guy from sales named Joe who drives down from Philly every year for this party, starting before Northeast and Southeast split, plus several who actually work in this region. :) Drink was freely flowing; there was always a waiter on hand to top up a wine glass. The food was (mostly) quite good; the crab soup appetizer in particular was very good. The filet mignon was decent--no comparison to the Old Dominion steak--and they accidentally swapped a rare and a medium-well order order, but that was quickly corrected. My dessert was bananas Foster--mmm. After dinner, Joe donned a Santa hat and beard, and each married guy came up to a) sit on Santa's lap, b) respond to a question like "give us a sweet story about your wife," "tell us your most embarrassing sales story," "tell us about your worst customer," "tell us a story about [the regional manager],", and c) get a gift basket for his wife. After that came some bad singing--12 Days of Christmas sung by some of the employees, then I'm Gettin' Nuttin' for Christmas, sung by three of the newest employees, including yours truly. (Alas, none of us had any idea what the tune for this song was supposed to be, though Dale tried to help.) (It was supposed to be three guys from sales, but two of them had already skipped out.)

The party ended around 2300, at which point I headed north into DC to go to Midnight, and quickly came to the conclusion that I like it better than chiarOscuro. I like the latter venue better, and it's easier to get to and park at, but I know a lot more people at Midnight. (I ran into [livejournal.com profile] xspookykittyx, [livejournal.com profile] slyx, [livejournal.com profile] gothiccripple, [livejournal.com profile] beastinme, Jen, Enigma, [livejournal.com profile] underfiend, [livejournal.com profile] houseboykinetic, and [livejournal.com profile] midnightscott, vs [livejournal.com profile] faeriemage last weekend.) Stayed there until they kicked everyone out around 0230, and headed home.

Oh yeah! On the way north, I caught about fifteen minutes of Flounder's Mashups on DC101. The most notable mix was "Coldplay - Clocks" and "Simple Minds - Don't You Forget About Me", which worked remarkably well together. I was so pleased by this that I called [livejournal.com profile] beracjade to tell him about it; he tried to listen via DC101's web stream, but alas, it wasn't running at the time.

"Chewing gum is really gross. Chewing gum I hate the most." -- Johnny Depp, as Willy Wonka, in the new trailer.

Via [livejournal.com profile] reaschild: Neil Gaiman doesn't always know what he's doing, or like it, either.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed the crap soup. I'll be calling you at a more reasonable hour when you're likely to be awake.

Mmm, craptastic. I'm awake now, though I've yet to dress or whatnot, and I still have no ideas as to activity. Anyone else jumped on the wagon for today?

Really, really hoping that's a typo....

Content, people! Go listen to the music, I demand it. ;)
