Unlicensed teened driver strikes, injures motorcyclist, attempts to flee scene; escape prevented by angry bystanders with front-end loaders.

This.. this is a truly horrifying set of actual things people have named their children. Hallah Lujah! Zestpoole! Blondeen! Aquanetta! Brinderella! Chod! Vvhs! Iron Rod! Jennyfivetina! Vinyl, Orlon, Chlorine! Hereditary! Justa Cowgirl! Thermos! Sambo! Walkasheaqua! Slaughter! Apathy! VulvaMae! Abcde! Vyquetoriya! LaDonnaJosephrania! And oh, so many more...

Went classy for lunch, for my last company-paid meal--Wolfgang Puck Express! Where else can you spend $17 on a bbq chicken & provolone sandwich, a small bowl of mac&cheese, and a soda? During the flight, watched I, Robot, which was pretty cool. After I got back to VA, I drove straight to Matt & Steph's house, where we collectively failed to convince my Powerbook, or Matt's iBook, to see or fix my Powerbook's hard disk. Guess I'll see what the local Apple store has to say, then look into data recovery (and extended Apple warranty coverage.) By that time, Matt's parents had arrived, and a tasty dinner was had; afterward, Matt and his dad fetched an ice cream cake from Coldstone. Mmm. We (Matt and I, and later everyone) watched some of Bike Build-Off, then about half of Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde, followed by the new Stepford Wives. Kinda freaky, very entertaining. (Still want to see the original, and read the book.

I used to work with a guy named Rex Feurer.

And my ex-girlfriend, last name DeLong, married a guy named Woodcock and hyphenated her last name.

You have to have women who are moral... and at the same time who are able to utilize their primordial instincts to name without feeling... without passion... without judgment... without judgment.

The horror... the horror...

if you want, i can look at your drive for you -- i'm working at a computer repair shop now, so there's a possibility i can get your data without having to spend large amounts of money on data recovery

What do you think you could do? To all appearances, it's a failure of drive mechanism or control firmware inside the drive.. (Not to mention, having work done on it by most shops would probably void Apple's warranty.)

well, it all depends on what's wrong with the drive, and obviously i can't tell without looking at it :)

basically, we've had some luck recovering data from drives that weren't recognized by macos, but were recognized by macdrive software for the pc. for some reason, drives seem to fail in such a way that macs can't see them, but this software can.

if the drive's not spinning up though, can't help you.

Weeeell, it seems to be spinning, but being clicky when it comes to trying to access the platters.

Hmm. How might one acquire, and use, this MacDrive sofware? And can it be used without, say, disassembling the Mac laptop? And if I did send my laptop to y'all for service, would that void my Apple warranty? I rather think it would..

there's a free trial of macdrive available at http://download.mediafour.com/macdrive/md_6.0.4.0_enu_qtd_setup.exe
I think it's fully functional, but will stop working after 5 days.

I'm assuming you'd already pulled the hard drive to try to get it to work on other machines. If so, what you'd need to do is install macdrive on a desktop PC, connect the hard drive to the pc using a laptop adapter, like found here: http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?cat%5Fid=906&sku=17705
If the drive's still functional at all, and the adapter's hooked up correctly, the PC should mount the drive using the macdrive software and hopefully you can snag your files.

Of course, I can't guarantee it'd work, but it's probably worth a shot since it's a hell of a lot cheaper than data recovery.

If you've got the drive pulled from the system, you should be able to send it to us without voiding your warranty. If not, there's a possibility, since for some models, it requires essentially disassembling the entire computer.

Nope, haven't removed the hard drive--and I'm pretty sure that would void my warranty, though I'm not sure of it. (Through firewire and another Mac, you can [try to] mount a drive from another machine.)
