At about 02 this morning, I got home from Alchemy, parked my truck on the street behind my house (as usual), locked up and came inside for the night.

Around 08 this morning, I go back to my truck, and notice that my owner's manual and envelope of insurance/reg/etc. papers are on the seat, and the glove compartment is open. And the passenger door is unlocked. And my new bag of new work tools is missing.

Now, I know I left the door locked, so I try to lock it again, but it don't budge. I walk around the truck, and find that the lock has been broken, after a failed attempt to jimmy it. Fabulous.

So, I called work, then talked to Nathan, then left a message with the Fairfax County police, and I'm waiting for a call back to file a report. Nathan doesn't think his homeowner's insurance covers vehicles out on the street, I have no renter's insurance, and only liability on the truck--but chances are, the deductible would be on the order of the value of the tools and lock, less than $300. (Also, the company will probably cover the tools again.)

:P

Yeah, pretty much. Still waiting on the cop to call--I don't know if he'll want to come out and look at the truck, so I don't want to move it yet.

Alchemy rocks. However, if this stadium deal goes through as planned, Nation will be gone--but hopefully Alchemy will find a new space.

Wow, what a great way to wake up in the morning.

That really sucks, Scott. I'm sorry.

Well, on the plus side, nothing else was taken--not that there was much else of value in the truck--and the only cost I'll probably have to cover is a new door lock.

If you have Comprehensive coverage, that should cover such things as broken locks, keyings, and random acts of animals (e.g. hitting a deer.) Such coverage is quite recommended, particularly for the latter event -- animals are quite capable of totaling a car.

This is true; however, the blue book value of my truck is in the neighborhood of $500-$800, so it isn't worth the annual premium to have it covered for more than liability.

Yeah, self insurance was my choice with my last car, too. Fortunately, that worked out okay.
