Headed up to Esther's in Rockville for her board game night around 1930. Met many of her Borders coworkers, and later a few people from her swing dance club who showed up late. Had assorted tasty foodstuffs, and then the gaming began.

First game, Perudo, theoretically about "bluff, guesswork, strategy, and luck," but really more about "guesswork, luck, and confusion." We still had a decent time of it, but I wasn't disappointed when I ran out of dice and went to get some ambrosia. :)

Meanwhile, several of the other people were playing Egyptian Ratscrew (card game, speed and quick reactions). After that, it was girls vs. guys for Outburst.

That game done, more card gaming commenced, and I took three other guys for a game of The Omega Virus--the game I brought, after perusing my collection of 16+ board games plus several block and card games. I don't even know how long I've had that game, but I hadn't played it in so long that the AA batteries had corroded together! Anyhow, it was a lot of fun--and one of the guys had actually heard of it before! He was the only one. :)

In the morning, I'm going to try to get up for the breakfast lunch ride with SCRCFX folks. It usually starts at 08, kickstands up at 0830, at the BK near Manassas Airport, and well, I just can't drag myself out of bed before 07 to make the 30+-min. ride out there in time, so I've never been on it. This time, though, the other organizer picked 09/0930 instead, so I stand a better chance of getting up in time. ;)

I love Egyptian Rat Screw! It can be a bit painful, though. :)

On pitbulls...

I grew up with a purebred, show-quality Vizsla. She is very much a part of the family, very affectionate, but also completely vicious. She wouldn't attack completely unprovoked, but she wouldn't hesitate to bite right through your hand if you wanted to move her off the couch she wasn't allowed on, or you tried to take something off of her that she stole, or if you tried to touch her feet. We've heard of other people having this same problem with this breed of dog. She's normally very pleasant, playful, and sweet... unless she chooses to misbehave and we try to stop her. She's smart enough to know that she's doing something wrong, and she knows that if she bites us we recoil. My cousin's Dalmatian is the same way. My aunt's cock-a-poo would bite anyone with NO provocation (until it tried to bite a truck tire on a truck that happened to be moving at the time. Yes, it ran after and ATTACKED a MOVING TRUCK.)

So, like, why don't you ever hear about this on the news? I have never once heard a story like "Child attacked by Vizsla, required stitches" or "Toddler mauled by vicious Cock-a-Poo" even though these happened in my family and probably in many others with these same breeds of dogs.

And as far as I'm aware, chow chows and German shepherds deserve a worse reputation than pit bulls, rotties, or dobermans, yet they're not generally banned. Figure that one out. I'd imagine someone important (read: politician, news editor, etc.) was victim (direct or indirect) to an attack and started a campaign get a particular breed banned, and it went from there.

(I'd also be tempted to maintain that most dogs can be trained to avoid such viciousness at an early age.)

I actually have The Omega Virus sitting in my closet. :) Prof. Worm (my cousin) mentioned that you were talking about it, so I thought I'd stop by and point you to this little song (http://www.dracat.net/~sylffor/LJ/Omega Virus (Sylffor Mix).mp3) I made a couple years ago.
