And now, the more entertaining/frivolous bits:

At [livejournal.com profile] comeseptember's suggestion, I watched the ending of the Theatrical Cut of The Butterfly Effect, and I liked it better. Sad, but both more plausible and more enjoyable than the Director's Cut ending.

So I sent a TJ friend, Jeff Firestone, a link to the Bose suspension system. His train of thought then led to:
  • A sonic refrigerator
  • The description of the seminar at which he saw said fridge, which also goes into "pyrophones" (instruments that use fire or heat to create music), the "daxophone" , and the Long String Instrument (a series of 100-ft-long bronze harp-type strings, played by several musicians with rosined hands--that's too large to demonstrate in the average lecture hall).
  • He adds:
The link to the fire organ is dead, but you can see it here: "Les Chants Thermique" which is part of an obscure group of intstruments called pyrophones! There is no good description of how it works, and the very few that have talked about it, in say Experimental Musical Instruments journal left off the wire mesh that I recall modulated and stabilized the heat flow that generates the tones.

which leads to the coolest concert picture I've ever seen!
