I get the impression that a lot of people don't touch LJ all weekend, or at work Monday, then jump on in the evening--or else there's some other explanation for the 85 posts on my Friends page between 1700 yesterday and 1000 today. :P
Got home to find Nathan still home, showing a contractor around who was offering an estimate on pipe replacement--replacing PBT with PVC or copper. (He'll probably go with PVC, which the contractor says is what's going into new houses these days, and it's quieter than copper.) He's also probably going to take up a refinancing offer, which will a) reduce his mortgage payment, and thus my rent, by about $400/mo total, and b) let him add to the loan to cover the ~$5K of pipe replacement. He also issued some new edicts related to his paradigm shift in housecleaning--since he got the kitchen so clean, he wants to keep it that way; same with the office; same with all of the shared spaces, eventually. Thus, more of my stuff has to go into storage or otherwise get out of sight. It's a good change, on principle, but it's something of a sudden change from "no organizational rules" to "several such rules." Also, I'm hungry, and the ferrets' litter box needs changing again. I'm feeling a little irritated at the moment. :P
However, I had a great time last night. :) Traffic getting to the Metro was fine, though a missed light waster a few minutes; the Blue line was then slow--my train even stopped for a minute--and my plan of hopping over to Yellow to cut several minutes off the trip backfired because the entire northbound Yellow line was delayed, so I really just wasted time waiting for the next Blue train. At any rate, got to Smithsonian around 1830, 15 minutes late, to find that Christine had arrived 15min early, but she wasn't upset. She had, in fact, picked up Subway, and been reading. :)
We walked down to a suitable spot a decent way back from the 40'x20' screen, laid down a blanket, and had a nice little picnic, while we waited a couple hours for the movie to start around dusk. While waiting, we both signed a petition for Remember the Grays, a group dedicated to bringing baseball to DC and memorializing the DC Negro League champions in one motion; we also acquired stickers for RunAgainstBush.org. ;)
The movie, The Thin Man (1934, first in a series of Thin Man crime/romance/comedy/mysteries) was quite entertaining, and the combination of the company I was keeping, the weather, and the drive-in/picnic feel was delightful. Afterward, we opted to walk back rather than a) fight the crowds to the nearby Metro stations, or b) walk halfway and take Metro the rest; we noted that certain parts of DC between the Mall and Union Station, while not as sketchy as some, are still not the best places for pedestrians at night. :P
