Oh yeah, and I have been to nearly all the touristy stuff n Canberra, so you should ask me what there is to do, and what is worth doing.
skreidle [23:03]:
that could well work even better
Silja (Jillian P) [23:04]:
Yes. So, shall I list the doable things?
skreidle [23:04]:
certainly
Silja (Jillian P) [23:06]:
Ok.
1. National Science Museum (Questacon). Excellent fun, you have to pay something or other. You can spend a whole day there, or just a few hours. Not sure on the cost.
2. National Art Gallery. Great, if you like art. From the classically beautiful to the just plain weird. Free, good for a few hours.
Silja (Jillian P) [23:07]:
3. Botanical Gardens. Pretty, lots of trees. The rainforest section is especially nice. Lots of walking involved (I got a blister dancing last night. Oh, the dancing). Free, but you have to pay for parking. Good for a couple of hours.
4. National Museum. Interesting. I can't really figure out what it is supposed to be. Lots of Australian history stuff mostly. Really cool building. Also free.
Silja (Jillian P) [23:08]:
5. National Film and Sound Archives. We went there ages ago. I love that place. Lots of TV and movie stuff. Also free (gotta love Canberra)
skreidle [23:08]:
free museums does not strike me as odd. :)
Silja (Jillian P) [23:09]:
6. War Memorial. Lots of war stuff. I believe it is free, certainly interesting.
Lots of meseams here are NOT free.
skreidle [23:09]:
so i gather
7. Parliament House. Interesting, if you're into that kinda thing. The building itself is kinda cool, inside as well as outside, and you can go look at the two houses (not sitting at the moment). Lots of groovy artwork and stuff too.
Silja (Jillian P) [23:10]:
Oh yeah, they have free tours of parliament house.

Silja (Jillian P) [23:11]:
8. The Mint. Where they make the money. I think it is free, no free samples given out. I haven't been there in years.
Silja (Jillian P) [23:12]:
or 9. We can go for a drive to places around Canberra, like Lake George and Murrembateman. Nice. Lots of wineries.
Silja (Jillian P) [23:12]:
10 (and this will be the last option) The National Zoo and Aquarium. Costs about $15.00pp. Lots of big cats, and the otters are really cute. And the monkeys too : )

My vote is currently leading with Questacon, Botanical Gardens, National Museum, and Zoo/Aquarium. I hope to get to most of the listed places before I leave, but I have another month or two to get to those. I also plan to mail a bunch of postcards (that I still need to write out), buy a phone card to top up my phone--can't do it purely online! grr!--and take my bike to the shop, before going sightseeing. I think I'll charge my camera batteries before I go out, too.
