Now, just imagine you're weightless, in the middle of the ocean, surrounded by tiny little seahorses

Went out to see Napoleon Dynamite with Rainie, Jake, and... another girl, whose name I've forgotten. 2210 showing at the only theater in the area still showing it--the decision was made at 1930, ten minutes before the next showing--so Rainie took a nap (having had almost no sleep last night due to hanging out with her friends) and I picked her up at 2140.

For about the first half of the movie, neither Rainie nor I knew quite what to make of the movie--it seemed awkward and aimless, though our companions and several of the other people in the theater were laughing loud and often--but once we saw where it was going, and certainly by the end, really enjoyed it. It's so adorable! Great soundtrack, too, which she wants a copy of. (She's getting a copy, too, she just doesn't know it yet. Hm!) And the intro credits? Possibly the best ever. :)

And now it's cool and rainy, moving on towards cold and rainy/snowy for the next few days. And I have class at 08 all three remaining days. Ack!

Day o' work, and links serious through entertaining

Today, we tore down and reinstalled one of the big honkin' boxes aaaall day, 8-5, 'cept lunch at Oli's Rib Shack. Not too shabby, though certain procedures were rather a PitA.

[livejournal.com profile] dragondream links to a petition to get Fox News to run a segment presenting pit bulls in a positive light, as they deserve. (I did contact the creator inquiring about oversight of grammar/punctuation in the petition itself, as the descriptive paragraph gave me cause for concern.) (She wrote back saying yes, it would all be well before submission.)

[livejournal.com profile] lanikei rants about a WashPost article on the NCLBA and how it relates to the Children Kept Behind.

[livejournal.com profile] weeping_angel links to an article on some awesome biotechnology: 'Brain' in a dish flies simulator.

Hehe.. the Conversatron presents Willy Wonka on midget labor.

Yipe! [livejournal.com profile] jwz shows us what 51% Bush + 48% Kerry would look like..

Tumbleweeds, weather, reckless dream, -Rainie, and wireless issues

1800ish: This morning, while driving to work, I saw tumbleweeds! Wet tumbleweeds, but tumbleweeds nonetheless. Kenton tells me that during some particularly dry times of year, people have to rake them away from their cars before they can leave their driveways! Hee.

It was kind of wet and cool this morning. By the time I left work, there was a thin layer of ice and snow on the cars, and it was 32F out. A few days ago, it was 65. Silly Denver.

Dream from Monday night: While driving on 66 in VA, I got pulled over and ticketed for 60 in a 35, reckless driving. I fell asleep before the cop came back to the car, so he left the ticket along with a long, handwritten note. When I woke up, I drove back to the hotel, fell asleep again, woke up unsure if I'd dreamed it all, found the ticket still there. ('course, 66 doesn't -have- any 35mph zones. And I dreamed all of it anyhow.)

1115ish:
It's now about 28 out. Brr!

Around 2130, I almost convinced Rainie that she should venture out of her apartment into said cold with me for dinner and whatnot, but she's still in sleep-deficit mode from Monday night, and coming down with something. (Also, she'll be 75 miles away tomorrow evening, and has plans for Friday. Alas!)

So now I am having leftover sesame chicken from dinner with Sarah&John the other night. Still tasty. :)

NathanC79 (11:06:41 PM): Yeah. I have my computer now
NathanC79 (11:06:53 PM): I am trying to connect to the wireless network.
NathanC79 (11:07:11 PM): But I am lacking the network key
[info]
NathanC79 (11:07:49 PM): Excellent
NathanC79 (11:08:00 PM): I am going downstairs to try that out
CU Stryker (11:08:01 PM): and i've yet to convince my work laptop to see it at all, so good luck with that ;-)
NathanC79 (11:12:47 PM): it connected. YAY!

And yet my work laptop, which has no problem with this hotel's network and only took a bit of poking at my dad's, can't see it no matter what I do. My Powerbook, when functional, has no problem with either. I don't get it!
