SCRC, new comic, absentee voting, and great music

Rode out to Fast Eddie's for the biweekly SCRCFX meeting; good turnout, which made for a very frazzled new waitress. Made it most of the way home without encountering any rain--at least, not enough to merit stopping to don rain gear. :) Concluded that I should get a new pair of solid (non-mesh) riding pants before I ride in weather any cooler than the ~55ºF it was tonight. :P

Niego, a comic plugged by Questionable Content. It is rather entertaining, and has a short archive.

I've gotten a few pieces of email lately regarding "voting by mail" or absentee voting, but only realized earlier today that I will, in fact, be out of town on business on November 2! Guess I should apply for an absentee ballot, eh?

Seriously, check out Vienna Teng--her music is beautiful.

O'Reilly, RoboScott, Realpolitik, kilt, and plans

O'Reilly Hit With Sex Harass Suit: Female Fox coworker details lewd behavior of cable TV star. That O'Reilly is one persistent perv--the court document is like a train wreck that just keeps getting worse.

IM between me (evil) and Scott S (good):
Good Scott: your new job is an on-call service job?
Evil Scott: it just happens to be for robotic tape libraries and associated hardware/software/firmware, installs and troubleshooting
Good Scott: so the robots call you for help? :-P
Evil Scott: I HELP THE ROBOTS.
Good Scott: haha, when the revolution comes, you've got a deal with them
Evil Scott: I WILL NOT BE FIRST AGAINST THE WALL
Good Scott: oh yeah, well when its all over you can join the robots on the robot reservation
Evil Scott: or visit you on the hu-man reservation ;-)

From a friend's email sig:
"Realpolitik is a mood of self-congratulatory pugnacity accompanied by complete witlessness about how people work. It is usually associated with paranoia and the empathy of a table-leg. And it isn't spelled well."
-- Fred Reed

I'm wearing a kilt. Of course there'll be pictures. :D

This evening, AITP meeting at Ft. Myer, where I'll get a free tie from Mulberry Neckwear, and possibly win a free shirt from Henry Jacobson. The presentation is in the Evolution of the Modern Day Helpdesk.

Tonight, Alchemy at Nation, where I'll purchase a ticket for the Social D concert on Monday. Tomorrow, I head up to Ithaca for Cornell's Homecoming and Seal and Serpent and APO events. I shall do this by motorcycle, potentially trying out my new rainsuit, definitely trying out the Laminar Lip I installed on my windscreen today, as well as whatever seat padding I get between now and tomorrow morning. :)

Shoppin'!

Well, that was a reasonably effective shopping trip.

Coleman Powersports: New solid textile pants (JR Ballistic 5.0) and a Signal Sorcerer (so my bike can trip magnet-sensor traffic lights)

Petsmart: Crickets for the bearded dragon

Wal*Mart: A nice wide dark brown leather belt from Faded Glory. Good for kilt. However, they had no seat pads, in outdoor or auto supplies.

Advance Auto Parts: Likewise, no seat pads, only full seat covers.

Sports Authority: Canari Velo II padded bike shorts, from SA's meager selection. I suppose fall/winter isn't the biggest biking season.

And now, back out the door to the AITP dinner/meeting. :)
