Nifty! Via [livejournal.com profile] notjaffo: Monolithic Dome Home: The Eye of the Storm, designed to withstand hurricanes, with a unique aesthetic to boot. (More MDHs here.)

[livejournal.com profile] notjaffo, on confidence and happiness.

I finished the archives of the comic Return to Sender this morning, and continue to feel that it's fantastic. Gods and demigods, Guardians and demons and humans.. it's a great story, and I look forward to more.

[livejournal.com profile] covielle pens a wonderful diatribe, starting with a review of John Kerry's appearance on Letterman last night (which I saw, actually) and ending with what she wants from the world.. Dylan rocks. :)

[livejournal.com profile] eideteker offers What Are You Voting For? "To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
-- Theodore Roosevelt

Speaking of voting.. Votergasm! "I pledge... My body to a voter on election night." (Not so work safe, really. ;)

Woo! [livejournal.com profile] partywhipple's photos from his party last week. (Mine are forthcoming.. at some point. :)

Ha! Via [livejournal.com profile] lanikei, via [livejournal.com profile] jwz: Swimming in syrup is as easy as water. It's a question that has taxed generations of the finest minds in physics: do humans swim slower in syrup than in water? And since you ask, the answer's no. Scientists have filled a swimming pool with a syrupy mixture and proved it (What the hell, I added [livejournal.com profile] jwz. I've been entertained by his posts many times before, but forget where I first saw 'em.)

Weather: Went from sunny and 50s-70s/80s to drizzly and 30s-50s. Blah! Should be back to warm/sunny in a few days, though.

Class: Went fairly well. Finished the first class, scored a 98% on the test, despite not feeling especially confident in my abilities to go out and administrate one of these machines without a good bit more practice first. Realized (yesterday, actually) that I was the only non-J name in the class--Jim, John, Jay, Jacob, and Julius are my classmates. It'll be even more pronounced and freakish for the rest of the week, when the instructor will also be Jim!

Lunch: Went to Planet Sub instead of the closer Subway. Report: the soup was good, they got my order wrong (chicken BBQ instead of a multi-meat, non-chicken BBQ) but food was still decent, good menu. Overall: Not worth the extra miles, but I might give 'em another chance.

After work: Partook of the hotel's open bar (1700-1900) from about 1820-1920. Had a Blue Moon, a couple Killian's, and some munchies, found no conversation among the people in the lounge, and chatted with the bartender and a couple patrons for most of my time there--snow sports, weather, lawns and artificial grass, work stuff. Tipped generously, and headed back to my room.

Comm: Got a message from LauraW (pretty French girl from Mike's party) while I was downstairs, sent her an email in French. Got an email (Tuesday evening) from the same that was sent before noon Monday, from Hotmail to Hotmail. Go figure. :P

New Get Your War On, Sep20!

Also, AIM hasn't let me sign on since I got back from work. May have to reboot. :P
Update, several minutes later: Nah, it started working again. Have to reboot for a couple of System Updates, though.
