Midsummer party report

There was Doug, Tenoya, Tony, Violet, Jay/Kinetic (whom I'd seen several times at Alchemy and reminded me of Tony), Tammy (whom I hadn't met before), Martin (who I think I had), [DJ Solaries], and several other people whose names I didn't catch and/or remember. There were an assortment of drinks and tasty foodstuffs. There was much music, including Depeche Mode, David Bowie, and Prince. There was Futurama. There was vinyl for sale, there were girls in vinyl, there were girls and guys in a vinyl vacuum bed, one at a time. There was much conversation on all manner of topic. A good time was had by all. :)

However, on the way to the party, there was a stop at the Huntsman Square Giant for pickup of two sixes of good beer, and a good 15-20 minutes waiting in one of the four open lines, each with a good 5-10 people in them, and no one at customer service. Ridiculous. Also, my cashier didn't even have the $40 cash i requested in her register, so I got four $5s, ten $1s, and a $10 from another register. Bah.

TJ Crew alumni row

Having not touched an oar in almost six and a half years, I headed down to Sandy Run Regional Park, the location of the boathouse TJ uses. Present, coach-wise, were Ron, Mrs. Nelson, and Beth; rower-wise there were 20 assorted guys and girls, from classes of '95 through '02. (I knew Praveen K, Brian Oh, Kate, and Ray Hohenstein; most of the rest were before or after my time.)

We were sorted into sides and boats--I rowed mostly starboard at TJ, but learned port one summer; I ended up on port today. We took out two eights and a four; I was 4 in the Tradition. I was also, coincidentally, in the boat of six guys and two girls, which had more power than either of the other boats, and we came out ahead in all of the short pieces we rowed.

After an hour or hour and a half on the water we headed in, and chatted over assorted food and drink under a rather warm sun. Weather was pretty good, though--very warm, but not too hot--good day to be on the water. (However, with hands long since callused from rowing, I picked up four blisters on my left (outside) hand, one with torn skin, and three minor blisters on my right (inside, feathering) hand. Fun! But man, my muscles are going to hurt tomorrow. I may have a good metabolism and keep in decent shape without trying, but I'm far from being in good shape.

Also, got to see Ron's new silver Corvette. Pretty. :)

No concrete plans for the rest of the day--might work on my truck's brakes, might clean my motorcycle, might clean up around the house or mow the grass, might go out tonight.. Tomorrow, Fathers Day, and if plans haven't changed, Phill will be in town. :)
