Headed up to TT Reynolds around 9, grabbed a hefeweizen, was eventually approached by Marta, a girl who remembered me from Cue. We chatted, grabbed some food, and were later joined by Moira and her boyfriend Dave Bagel. Her brother Adam's band Life of the Common was pretty good--rock/alternative, mostly original, a couple covers. (Her other three brothers, and both parents were present, too.) Then came the headliner, Welbilt, another good band of the same genre and similar style. The venue, on the other hand, didn't impress me--typical college bar, crowded and loud, though the beer and food were decent.

Good night overall. In the morning, court date for a 15-over traffic ticket from late March, despite the fact that I couldn't get my speedo calibrated--I passed the prepayment windows, and don't want a "guilty in absentia." :P

Tomorrow night, Alchemy! (With Moira, Bagel, Marta, and hopefully Becky in attendance. :)

Well, that went well. Dressed up pretty, headed up to the Fairfax County General District Court, arriving just on time due to traffic (but several minutes before the judge appeared). Waited through an assortment of other cases--including a guy who claimed his lawyer had skipped town, whereabouts unknown, and was told "come back with an attorney I've heard of", a ditzy girl whose explanation for her lack of license was "Well, I have it now", and a woman who somehow missed hearing her name called who was summarily brushed off. My turn, I pleaded Guilty With Explanation (to my 50-in-a-35 ticket from late March), talked about speedometer calibration (which I haven't had done), and was assessed a $35 fine (plus $55 court costs.) Not bad, not bad at all. (Not sure what it'll do points-wise, suppose I'll find that out in a week or two.) On my way out, at the suggestion of the judge and the information desk in response to my query about calibration locations, I asked the Police Liaison Office, and no, they don't know either. Total time in the courthouse? Less than an hour.

And now back to work, so I use an hour less leave than I originally requested. :)

From [livejournal.com profile] kelwyn: It seems Andy Kaufman may have, indeed, returned 20 years after faking his death. We remain skeptical until, as [livejournal.com profile] skamille puts it, we see it in the Times.

From [livejournal.com profile] baranoouji: The Way We Eat Now: Ancient bodies collide with modern technology to produce a flabby, disease-ridden populace. (Discussion here.)

Awesome! From [livejournal.com profile] pendragon: [Mass.] Senate votes to end 1913 law. The state Senate yesterday voted overwhelmingly to repeal a 1913 law that Governor Mitt Romney is enforcing to prevent out-of-state same-sex couples from marrying in Massachusetts.
