Saturday, 7/5:
Seeing as how neither Melody nor I had a card or gift for Crystal, we headed out to Hallmark, and picked up a couple amusing and utterly random FreshInk cards, plus a couple gifts (including a book of cat-related quotations). While walking to the truck, I noticed a nearby sprinkler spouting a fountain into the air and then the parking lot, rather than sprinkling the landscaping.. it was a hot day, so I walked over and through the spray a couple times. :D Then it was off to Carvel, to pick up the large ice cream cake.
The party was fun--many friends and some more family, including a history teacher only a few years older than us who's fascinated by battlefields and would like to swing by Manassas sometime. :) The food was both tasty and plentiful--Rigatoni a la Vodka, Chicken Franchese, eggplant something-or-other (eww, eggplant), stuffed shells)--and a mini-keg of Molson Canadian in the fridge to boot.
Melody wasn't feeling well so she went upstairs, where I joined her a while later. We looked through some, ah, modified Barbie coloring books from years ago--a nice softcore storyline with entertaining character names. Then, out came a big book of Mad-Libs, which we read through some of before actually playing a few pages.
Later that night, I watched Equilibrium with Melody, Crystal, Stephe, and two other people. It was a good movie, but not groundbreaking--a lot of similarities to 1984 and Fahrenheit 451, though not copied from them. I wasn't surprised by twists in plot, though I would probably have to see it again to get all the details.
Sunday, 7/6
Slept 0415-1100, had bagels, discussed the details of Melody's visit to VA with her and her dad. Then, we played with the bunny. With departure imminent, her dad suggested a couple different routes* back through NYC, to avoid $10 in tolls across the GW and Throg's Neck bridges. We'll probably go straight back to Lorton to sleep, get the computer/stuff tomorrow, but we'll see. Can't leave until Melody's out of shower, and we're photographed for posterity, though. Ooh, lunch, too!
The return trip will be much, much nicer, with Melody as company. We'll listen to the rest of the Good Morning, Vietnam! soundtrack, which she'd never heard. and I'd started playing for her earlier. :D
* LIE to Bklyn-Qns Expwy S to Manhattan bridge; or, Canal St, Holland tunnel, Pulaski Skyway, to 95S
