But before I begin, damn, another 20-30 comment emails just appeared out of the ether, held up by the latest DDoS attach. That puts my total of "need consideration for replies" at around 90.

Moving on.

[livejournal.com profile] tarantulalovers: A tarantula eating a small mouse.

[livejournal.com profile] mock_the_stupid: The further decline of the English language

And from there, the user's journal. It's horrendous. Oh god.

All of you who've posted the 5 literary questions? That's from the Friday Five, yo.

[livejournal.com profile] reverend_dave: Iceland Suffering Through Shortage Of Testicles

[livejournal.com profile] sebatical: U.S. plan: Threat level for every flier. ACLU objects, calls background checks unconstitutional.

[livejournal.com profile] alacrity: Analytical essay on unintentional email propagation, privacy, and democracy. (Mirror of the printer-friendly version)

[livejournal.com profile] baranoouji, by IM: Strindberg + helium. Rather bizarre little animated comic. Surreal, even. Amusing. :)

Let's all thank [livejournal.com profile] jude, my 10,000th-comment-poster!

So today, work was. 8-4, probably spent two hours of it chatting with customers about birds, several of whom didn't realize that birds could (and should) get more than just bird food--they can eat most people food too! (Exceptions: chocolate, caffeine, alcohol, and avocado are potentially fatal, and salty/greasy food isn't any better for them than for you.) It was also very busy, and we had three associates on (and busy) just in Specialty. Got an aquarium haggled down further than I thought reasonable due to its lack of light and "last one in the store" status, but whatever, he bought it. Probably should've refused his offer and not sold it. Boo.

Intermission: A rather serious link
From [livejournal.com profile] sebatical: U.S. Diplomat's Letter of Resignation
[It] is the text of John Brady Kiesling's letter of resignation to Secretary of State Colin L. Powell. Mr. Kiesling is a career diplomat who has served in United States embassies from Tel Aviv to Casablanca to Yerevan.

Now, on with the show!

My cat's back from the vet, where she stayed overnight following her senior semi-annual comprehensive exam (free! including ~$150 of tests/vaccine. :P) They say she's doing quite well for a 15-year-old, 5lb12oz cat--the prescription diet is doing a lot of good; the weight loss (stable, down from about 8lbs) is due to protein loss through not-the-best-functioning kidneys, but that's under control. Her recent habit of going to the bathroom in assorted non-litter-box areas of the house is potentially due to a feline form of Alzheimer's, as there's nothing acutely wrong with her; the vet thinks the canine medication for canine Alzheimer's may have recently been approved for cats, too--he'll have to check. The vet also said that she could well live another five years at this rate! *pleased*
