Left house at 10am, went to class, worked on homework, broke for lunch, more homework, MAE Grad Welcome Party (free Pizza Hut pizza and ice cream!) at 5pm, back for a bit more homework, then to work 7pm-midnight, and that got me pretty much finished with homework.. at least, the problem set due tomorrow. The midterm re-do is still undone.

1st problem: redone perfectly. Turns out I abandoned the right idea in favor of a wrong one, the first time.

2nd problem: bombed it the first time; re-do will involve much copying of solution set.
3rd problem: Got it almost perfect the first time, will do a bit better.

Yeah, it's almost 3am. Oh well.

...is done! Woohoo!
Just have to compare a bit of homework with Laurel in class tomorrow, but everything's done. Yay! :)

Learned of two interesting incidents:
  • Two 17-year-old non-TJ* students were arrested after breaking and entering and attempting to steal computers; their 22-yr-old getaway driver was also arrested.
  • Deborah Panel, former TJ choir person (any of the preceding could be wrong, but that's my memory for you) was getting out of her car the other day, after her daughter had gotten out already, and felt something tug her shoulder. She thought maybe her seat belt was still fastened, but then she saw a tear in her shirt, blood on her shoulder, and a bullet lodged in her seat. Police say they have no idea where it came from; it could have been from as far away as 2-3 miles, balistically. A second faster on the car-departure, and she could be dead. Creepy.

    * They were not from TJ, as this WashPost correction states.

So I decided (based on evidence of coolant fumes leaking puffing into passenger compartment, particularly on the defrost setting) that the heater core was failing.. boy was it.

Drove down to AutoZone to get a new one (only $18!) and return the water pump I decided not to install and the loaner tool I would've needed to do it (net $32 credit :), noticing progressively more fumes coming in from all vents (panel and defrost), even if "heat" was off.. drove with the windows down, and unheated air venting in to blow said fumes out the windows.. had three different people at AutoZone tell me my truck was overheating (nope, just the heater core leaking)...

...and when I got home, I noticed the core had failed entirely on the way home--coolant on the passenger-side floor. Woo! Good timing on the replacement part purchase.

My first thought about this strip wasn't about song lyrics.
