Drove Sylvie (the ferret, notthe girl) to Old Bridge Veterinary Hospital for her adrenal surgery, met with Dr. Kawasaki (who was surprised to learn his name was on the FerretCentral website), was told to call back around noon to check on her, went on my merry way.
Stopped by the DMV on the way home, took about half an hour and got my motorcycle learner's permit. Only took me 21 questions to get the required 20 right (of 25), and the one I missed I could contest if it were an issue--I think the picture was misleading.
Then, I left to visit Anne out in McLean. My truck overheated before I even got to the Fairfax County Parkway (~8mi from Manassas)--it was running above the redline. Since the coolant appeared fine, oil was fine, and fan was running, I figured it was probably the thermostat--even though it was replaced a year or two ago. One fo the VDOT Highway Safety Crew showed up within 5 minutes and reached the same conclusion, and offered to call a tow truck. I declined, figuring I'd let it cool down a bit. Drove on, then got off immediately at the FCPkwy and then 29 to stop at a payphone since it was still overheating. Called dad, who suggested a few things to try. Then called Anne, to let her know I'd be late--I already was, at that point. Then called home, 'cause Anne had called there to inquire as to my whereabouts. Added coolant; while I was doing that got to hear an accident right nearby as a result of two trucks--one of them Verizon :)-- ran yellow/red lights and front-ended. Realized the radiator was cold, meaning either: closed thermostat, blocked coolant line(s), or non-functional pump.
However, the temp stayed acceptable the rest of the way to Anne's.
We took the car she drives (BMW sedan) out to Great Falls, walked/climbed around on lots of large rocks for a few hours, watched silly kayakers, an old-school photographer, and other people, and talked a lot. 'twas fun :) Then went back to her place, where there was a message saying to call home--they wanted me to go fetch Shauna from choir, since TJ is 15mi from Anne's and 29mi from our house. Then we played frisbee till her dad said it was dinnertime, and I went to TJ, truck thinking about overheating all the while. Got dad to go out and buy a new thermostat since I'd be back after stores closed.
Planned to install it in the morning, cuz I'm to go cross-county to visit Lindsay Tuesday afternoon.
Then, since Shauna was on the computer till late, I called Katia and talked for a couple hours :) Then, sleep.
