Weather good, weather bad..
Mar. 6th, 2001 03:08 pmSo it's been snowing pretty much nonstop here for days, leaving us with well over a foot of accumulation most places. Sidewalks are almost impassable, and half the roads suck, too. So every local community college, local and public school, most agencies, Binghamton U., and all of adjacent Broome County are closed. But is Cornell? Heaven forfend, no.
The only time in recent history Cornell's closed due to weather was 3 years ago, when a sudden ice storm hit early afternoon, and the sheriff ordered the roads closed at 5pm. So Cornell closed a little early.
However, story has it that the previous time that happened, and the sheriff closed the roads at 1pm, Cornell didn't close. The entire staff was up in arms, and I can't blame them. I would've gone home anyway. However, they've made a halfass attempt to keep the campus and local roads clear, and little to no attempt to keep sidewalks, paths, plazas, etc. clear.
I really really hate not being able to bike everywhere--I'm still biking, but half of campus is just impassable by bike.

On a better note, I helped push a stuck car out of the snow as I was going to work today. Yay, Good Samaritanism :)
