My morning so far, 0900-1000:

Call from my manager, asking if I could take a call, ASAP, in Richmond.
Missed callback during that call from the POC at another site.
Call to that POC.
Call again with manager, as he was disconnected.
Call from a coworker, asking if I'd be in the office today.
Database lookups to get necessary information.
Call to POC in Richmond.
Call to logistics to get part shipped to Richmond ahead of me.

I swear so many of these things would be easier if just done through e-mail assuming all parties were reasonably intelligent.

In this case, email wouldn't have helped. The information I needed to pass to the woman with whom I was playing phone tag included names, DoBs, and SSNs, and I'd just as soon not email those. As for the manager calling multiple times, it was a rapid-dispatch kind of thing, no time for relying on email.
